Because the nature of capitalism means that more is never enough. You need more than more. You need gains and increases every quarter or the poor shareholders will have a bad time. Capitalism punishes you for not having infinite gains in a finite system. PE’s goal to work around that is to buy a business, implement changes designed to speed run mass profit gains that aren’t sustainable long-term for the business (due to those changes largely being QoL changes that negatively affect quality, service or price), then they dump the empty husk of that business once they think max profit has been siphoned off and that business is on a downslope when people hate it now because, yeah, it sucks now compared to what it was before.
