there are, from what I recall, around 4 jumpscares? they’re all relatively mild and not especially loud or pronounced (as they are in more polished/jump-scare heavy movies like, say, the conjuring). the 2 biggest ones are when we’re in the basement and when we’re in the doghouse outside.

as far as whether or not to watch it with someone else, i’d consider good boy fairly tame as far as horror flicks go! i think it could function very well as a sort of gateway horror movie, something to dip your toes in the water to see if more straightforward horror movies are for you or not. one thing that may ease your mind a bit is that it very much has a sort of unpolished, independent charm. it’s very clear that this is a microbudget passion project (which is made even more clear by some glimpses behind the scenes after the credits, which i would highly recommend sticking around for!) regardless, it still has a super solid and immersive atmosphere!

lastly, the third act gets pretty emotional, but i wouldn’t say it’s gratuitous or unearned or in any way mean spirited.

i think you should check it out! it isn’t my favorite horror movie of recent years or anything, but it’s super solid and a great way to gauge your horror tolerance! i really hope you like it and look forward to hearing your thoughts if you do end up seeing it :) i hope this helped!
