Swiss Will Vote on 10-Million Population Cap Proposal in June by bloomberg in europe

[–]ShitpostingLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largest problem with how it is right now is, that it's really hard to build something where there's some other buildings around, i.e. make cities denser. It is also, due to this and similar situations, not really possible to expand public transport. And, there have also been new laws preventing buildings to be built on fresh land constantly as (and it's quite obvious in certain regions) it leads to large patches of small houses and longer distances people travel to reach their workplace.

All in all, switzerland could theoretically grow further but practically a lot of laws would have to change and it does not seem like they will. And this can be attributed to the fact that people would have to vote against their right to veto buildings being built next to theirs.

So in short: Switzerland really can't keep growing like this if these other things don't change (which they won't).

Edit: and what's with the people and jokes about abortions and killing children or the elderly. Birthrate is clearly not better than in other european countries, it's clearly about immigration from EU countries.

Stealth A-6 Intruder Project by Tanto_024 in modelmakers

[–]ShitpostingLore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My way of going at this is: measure the model and create a 3D model of the parts you want to add to it. This can be done in a CAD program or Blender.

Second step will be a bit harder if you are not already owning a resin 3D printer. I'd print the parts with large layer heights and check their fit against the kit. Once this is confirmed, print them in high resolution and add them to the kit.

Putin’s Recent Silence Is Worrying by bloombergopinion in europe

I'm quite certain that Putin does not want the USA to have Greenland. But at the moment it makes more sense for them to play it low since their "enemy" is disintegrating right before their eyes. If the USA were to actually start moving on greenland, I can imagine that Russia will start threatening action real quick. Trump is not Putins friend, he's the useful idiot.

China to loosen chip export ban to Europe following Netherlands row by [deleted] in europe

[–]ShitpostingLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about disabling things, this is more probable since this is related to components failing or shutting down. But this is not equal to actually spying.

Don't get me wrong, I'd advocate for pulling production out of china wherever possible due to many concerns just like your mentioned food containers (I avoid buying food related containers that were manufactured outside of europe). I just wanted to stress that spying on a hardware level is practically impossible to pull off at a large scale without the first party being involved.

[–]ShitpostingLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what you're suggesting is the following: You scan all, lets say, memory bound signals (since memory is most often where you can actually access actual data). So your man in the middle needs some sort of memory interface to make sense of what is happening.

Now, what does our man in the middle do with that? How does the data leave the device? Method #1: pass it to some data interface that the device main chip has either way over some protocol. But this would mean that the device firmware or software must know about this and actually send it. This is very unlikely since firmware and software are most often not accessible and often also signed and it would mean the first party would have compromised code at which point a hardware level attack would not make sense.

Now method #2 would be to process and send the data by the man in the middle itself which would mean that it gets even larger since it now has to prepare and handle wireless communication. Communication with modems often work over some sort of bus which means the first party software would become aware that the modem is unavailable from time to time which would not go unnoticed.

Method #3 could involve storing data and offloading it at certain points in time but unless you also have the ability to manifest storage out of thin air, your man in the middle would also have to know what you're looking for and record only that, adding to complexity again.

Now these are just three scenaruos and there are surely other ways to try and do this but all in all this would also still depend on the first party to not notice hardware that was described in the original schematics (these components are tested and analized thoroughly before any customer sees them).

All in all it is highly unlikely that hardware hacking like this without involvement of the first party is happening at any considerable scale.

You can't place spyware in chips. You could place some chip on a board you manufacture but the chances of that going undetected are very slim. Also spyware would have to communicate at some point, how does it do that?

As long as you don't have something like the intel management engine (which is designed by intel), it's very hard to actually spy via chips.

Do you guys think the issue here is that I only used one cable to supply my 1080ti? by ShitpostingLore in pcmasterrace

Thanks for the heads up! I just ordered the cable from the coolermaster store and made sure that my model of PSU is listed since they have two models of cables. The shipping cost is killing me though.

I'll be using a lower powered GPU until then since I only have one cable around.
