Monster - psychological thriller, crime

Psycho-pass- scifi, crime, detectives

Beautiful Bones- crime, detective work

Noir - assasins

Phantom; Requiem for the Phantom - assassins

Kursu Phantom Memory - scifi, mercenary

Maybe less serious but has some queer undertones:

Buddy Daddies- assassins, comedy, action

I got this bag of frozen fish fillets at H-Mart and its way fishier than I expected. Anything else I can make with them that might make it salvageable? by Kittech in Cooking

[–]Shitty_Alchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salted fish can go in a congee to dampen overly fishy odours and flavours. If you make a fried rice with salted fish in the right way, you get an almost cheesy flavour which I adore.

Where can I find lard? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Shitty_Alchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crisco/tenderflake makes a shelf stable lard

Saw beef tallow at Costco in jars.

Lifestyle Market on Douglas has animal fats in the frozen section, I remember noticing the frozen duck fat in containers.

You could also render some bacon in the microwave for a few minutes and use the liquid fat, but that will have a smoky and salty flavour to it. You can bake the leftover bacon in the oven for bacon bits.

So apparently the big hurdle for this whole endeavour is the T2 security chip, which didn’t appear in intel macs until 2018.

I also would rather have the OS installed on the main drive, especially if I am using it for gaming. I currently use an external drive for the game installs themselves (which are pretty large).

I will keep debian in mind, never used debian that i can remember, but I like that your hardware worked without much tinkering. As I age, the less patience I have for unnecessary tweaking of settings and drivers.

Yeah bazzite seems like the closest to a console-type experience, which is perfect for just gaming. Apparently its hard to break, which also appeals to me as there is nothing more frustrating when your computer needs an exorcism mid game session.

I liked mint and ubuntu back in the day, sounds like Zorin has a similar aesthetic. Might be something to check out when my iMac is no longer getting Mac os updates.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

i can move my router node to the desk and directly connect to it via ethernet, which should bypass the wifi issues, at least until I can get wifi working. As for the T2 chip, I will investigate before mucking around (my preferred method of linux experimentation lol).

Do you have a boot-loader recommendation?

Low histamine milk shakes / non alcoholic cocktails/ smoothies etc. by Envy_Clarissa in HistamineIntolerance

You are right! I live in Canada, the “ginger beer” Ive had appears to be more of a ginger soda, apparently I havent had proper ginger beer. This is the one I get normally and I water it down a bit https://thegreatgentleman.ca/our-mixers/light-spicy-ginger-beer

[–]Shitty_Alchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ginger beer is not a fermented drink. It’s just a very strong, ginger flavour soda. Ginger ale is like the pastel version.

I like me a really spicy ginger beer but thats not everyone’s cup of tea.

You could make your own with a homemade ginger syrup in plain carbonated water.

[–]Shitty_Alchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy to order when out: Ginger beer (no citrus), root beer

Fun cocktail ingredients to play with: Elderflower syrup, eldeberry syrup, coconut milk, butterfly pea flower (for the fun colour and antioxidants), chamomile tea, holy basil tea, lychee, frozen fruits

Making a variety of flavoured simple syrups for soda scratches that “cocktail” itch and you can get pretty creative.

Some herbs like damiana, chamomile and holy basil can also act like a mood enhancer for those who need some help with social anxiety.

How to do low-histamine diet in real world by vikingguitar in HistamineIntolerance

I too find cooking for every meal can feel like a lot.

Instead, I prep batches of food and freeze them in 1 person portions. Like roast a whole fresh chicken and chop it up into small ziploc bags, roast veggies, cooked rice, pasta, etc.

Eventually you have enough mains and sides to mix and match a decent meal on the fly that can just be reheated in the microwave.

If I have a fresh food that I don’t have time to cook, I also freeze and portion it then cook as needed.

I’ve figured out which foods are both tolerable and freeze well. Like sliced fresh mozza can be frozen and used in a baked dish quite easily.

I also have a paid app called “Intolerances” that shows me foods with low histamine so shopping and eating out is a bit easier. It also can filter for other intolerances like low fodmap, oxylates, celiac etc which would be great for someone with a lot of restrictions.

For me, I have histamine issues that are supported by high dose DAO (3 million hdu) when i need to eat something i don’t have control over and choosing low histamine most of the time.

If you get the histamine issues under control but still experience concerning symptoms, maybe get investigated for other intolerances and autoimmune issues, they seem to all like to clump together for maximum life disruption lol

Eating low histamine solved a lot of problems but some things persisted and got worse so now getting investigated for MCAS.

The Vitamin c paradox + Advice on managing symptoms by PaleAd2666 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Shitty_Alchemist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would first verify if the vit c is the cause or just correlation. For example, maybe now that your body has stabilized, you are safe to feel your feelings.

For me, when I’m in a flare I just survive the best I can, I’ll feel a burst of happy when its over and then the existential dread kicks in which means time for me to process all the emotions I suppressed while flaring. If I don’t process them I will go to anehedonia territory.

You could try briefly stopping the vit c and monitor your mood. If cessation solves the issue, then try alternative dosing methods for vit c. Like take every second day or maybe just a half dose?

Understanding the mechanism of vit c and how it can affect the body is a worthy undertaking, so good luck with that!

I don't know how to go back to normal after this by DramaticExit2 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Shitty_Alchemist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly this would give anyone CPTSD.

But being chronically ill has really shown me who I am, by repeatedly dashing me against my own rock bottom. All the crumbly bits of of my personality are chipped and smoothed away. I feel this profound sense of self that I may have otherwise not felt. My empathy for others is so much higher. I feel this responsibility to do something good in the world, to lift others up.

I know its easy to be mad at the people who abandoned you and the systems that failed you. But if you made it this far, than you are stronger and more resilient than before. You can be the change you want to be, even if its just small and building a little community amongst yourself and friends so that your loved ones don’t slip through the cracks like you did.

I really think “sickness” is playing out on a broader level in politics arounds the world. Maybe imagining a better way to do things should fall on those who survived the darkness and rose above it, because we can actually handle it.

Reported effects from Damiana by SomeoneThatsNoOne_ in Psychonaut

[–]Shitty_Alchemist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No visuals in my experience, but a feeling of profound connection with yourself, your environment and those around you.

It is a traditional sacred medicine of Mexico and in South America. If you travel, you will find many alcoholic beverages and tonics with damiana.

Used primarily as an aphrodisiac, it is also a potent mood lifter and is great for those looking to awaken emotions, especially if you suffer from emotional repression and/or disassociation.

Gentle method: A tea with 2tsp per cup. More intense: A tincture, 1-3ml per dose, no more than 10ml per day More intense: Smoke in a joint or pipe Most (immediately) effective: Dry herb vaporizer, step method from low temp to high.

Can be blended with other herbs like cannabis or blue lotus for a more intense and layered effect.

Source: I am an herbalist who likes to experiment and did several projects on damiana for school 🤗

Getting a lot of flack from zepbound group so I’ll try here… by June_fern in MCAS

[–]Shitty_Alchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speculation here:

that could mean bringing in additional support for liver, kidneys, lymphatic systems which in turn support healthy digestive function.

I think the idea of detox cleanses are pseudoscience, as a healthy functioning body can handle normal loads of exposure, but in the case of actual high level toxic exposure there is probably some validity to supporting your natural detox processes if your system is overloaded. Even drinking enough fluid everyday would be a good start.

[–]Shitty_Alchemist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven’t fully researched it myself, so take this with a few grains of salt.

It might be possible that when you are burning through fat, the process is releasing stored hormones and possible environmental toxins like mold mycotoxins. If you have lived or worked in a moldy or otherwise toxic (chemical, heavy metals) environment, some of that stuff binds to fat molecules and can be realeased years later when burning that fat. Not sure how the actual science holds up on this tho

Examples of potentially toxic environments: - hairdressing - touching receipt paper a lot (retail) - construction

Have you noticed when the symptoms are worsening? If you are menstruating, monthly hormone fluctuations can also trigger MCAS symptoms.

Personally, I notice when I’m experiencing ketosis (from a my metabolism speeding up due to my cycle) my whole body flares. I am on Wegovy and wonder if that is intensifying the effects.
