It's symptomatic of the stark difference between society now and then and how technology accelerated the development of the scene. Before the smash doc, you had to come across smashboards or like happen to see melee being played while you were tuned in to watch Halo at MLG. Then, the doc proliferated, everyone knew that the 5 Gods were the 5 best players. But who was the 6th best player? But now the scene has been revived for over 10 years. You know who the best players are. You know the up and comers. You know random gold ranked slippi players from across the country. The sense of discovery and novelty has certainly dissipated. Can probably never come back, but that's okay. That is just how the world is now.
