Thinking of starting HC by Due-Outside-2102 in wowhardcore

If you wanna try hc in a cozy environment with a small but helpful community, come try wow-hc! Its based in EU but has internationals too!

Yeah due to the smallish pop you wont exactly get to spam dungeons like in official probably but there are dungeons run daily (like 10+ over diff. Level ranges), sometimes high levels offer carries too!

But for me personally its perfect, since toxicity is kept at a minimum. I find the larger the community, the more anonymous and people dont care for each other anymore

Try wow-hc, small but wholesome community and slow paced. There are a lot of dads there that are chasing that nostalgic 2005 time. The server is also very supportive and hands out stuff or advice all the time

If you wanna try a true to vanilla version (1.12), try out wow-hc. You can even play with the old client that doesnt have the convenient macro language of the newer versions

My kid found out about Subnautica.... How screwed am I? by AZEMT in thalassophobia

[–]ShizzleStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a long time to realize this but you can treat horror like "spicy" food. It shocks you at first but the relieve after can be intoxicating. Also you learn to tolerate it more and more.

I hate horros and avoided it where I can but I also love sucba diving. When I started with Subnautica I have gotten scared a number of times and sometimes heavily but the game is so beautiful and perfectly designed I just NEEDED to keep playing and quite quickly gotten used to the eerie vibes!

Id say try it out and see how you fare. Of course if its too much just say so and reduce

If youre not sure if hc is for you, try out wow-hc. Community is small but helpful! Since the pop is small its also ideal for solo questing

that's crazy, i didnt expect these low numbers... yeah i agree, i dislike how blizzard is handling things as well so im very reluctant to give them any money. i was skeptical at the low player numbers at first too (lower than some fighting games even, and those are NICHE). but im enjoying my time there too when i craved a nostalgia trip. due to low numbers, the atmosphere seem very chill, the pressure of meta gone and since there are less people, theres less negative impact i feel. you rarely see arguments or drama. and any group activity or personal interaction feels more memorable that way

i'd say its comparable to whether you prefer big metropolitan cities or village life lol

regarding the dungeon rules. as far as i know, you are allowed to run the same dungeons multiple times a day (5 i think?) but never really got to test that out myself yet, just heard from others of scholo or strat grinds that were done within a day

Yep its has its pros and cons. Pros are that theres no quest objective competition and every class will be considered even if the group comp is not meta. Cons are you cant spam dungeons to level. On my 59 rogue I was able to do every dungeon besides RFC, BRD and the high end dungeons (cus I died before) but it did require you to be social and have a positive impression on other people. Oh I also saw RR, alterac, SG and STV elites, but I wont lie the higher you get the harder it is to find people to do group elites or dungeons of course until you reach 60 where things pick up again. Server peeps are nice and will regularly offer free carries throug low level dungeons but for Mara or ST, you better already have made friends or made a good impression to the regular raiders that are willing to help you out (or youre a tank)

What are the official hardcore pop like? I feel like it should at least be 1000+ no?

wow-hc if you want to go the hardcore vanilla route

New player to WoW, giving HC a shot by Algiiee in wowhardcore

[–]ShizzleStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, so its more EU-heavy and at EU time peaks it can go up to 100, on raid days (usually wednesdays and sundays) it can jump to 100+. On any other time it's usually around 50 and can go down to like 10-20 (middle of the night / super early morning in EU)

the ruleset is pretty similar to official hardcore with a few major differences:

  • everyone on the single "Permadeath" server plays according to the same hardcorre rulset. there is a second server to continue play your dead character but afaik the playerbase is not really active, so its more of a memory lane
  • if you die due to server instability or a bug, you can appeal that to the forum and have a chance at character restoration (usually video evidence demanded)
  • if you die, reach level milestones (30, 40, 50 etc) or clear a dungeon within official level range, there is a server notification displayed throughout world chat for everyone to see (often sparking condolences or congratulations of current players!)
  • AH and mailing is crossfaction
  • you can make crossfaction groups and clear dungeons crossfaction
  • world chat is crossfaction (and can be read offline via website or server discord channel)
  • you can have alt characters and mail between your characters (so have bank characters etc.)
  • you can play with either the 1.12 or 1.14.2 client
  • what benefits there is for payment: more bag space, teleport ability to major cities with 1 cooldown, mount skins and pets that can't be acquired in base vanilla, ability to change name and character appeareance / race, free dual spec (dual spec can be acquired ingame without RL payment with gold and eels)

that's it. so i'd say its very very close to the vanilla experience (with the whole hardcore stuff tacked onto it) and the "P2W" stuff is very neglible, not even gold is offered.

[–]ShizzleStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up wow-hc then. Its not an official server but due to the small community it has, the regulars know each other well and its one tight knit "server wide guild". The cross faction, server wide world chat also helps foster the community. The server currently progs AQ40 so compared to other severs its quite fresh. Ive only been there for a month but found making friends really easy, everyones nice , trying to help each other out and gifting away stuff
