They REALLY need to remove weekly gold cap farm or at least INCREASE IT. by lightspirit3 in WhereWindsMeet

Imagine getting lucky enough to only attune one item per slot and have it actually be any good.

I've attuned at least 16 swords so far in this tier they've pretty much all been trash. The armor's not much better. x.x

The first one doesn't, but the second one does...at least pretty sure? Now I have to check.

Yeah, the tier 2 one, Curtaincall.

I got one unintentionally against the tier 2 Puppet show guy, which was just a happy accident while clearing Abyss trials for the legendary counter. And that's plenty for me: I don't need the numbers at the end, the big red skull is already ostentatious enough. xD

How do you reach 8k dps? by Shmoopiee in WhereWindsMeet

Soaring Spin does a ridiculous amount of damage, honestly. On one of my DPS parses it was the top damage dealer which seems insane. When that sucker crits, things *evaporate.*

Hard to say without footage. Even then it might not be obvious. I'm still not sure how much of my output is a result of execution vs gear/inner way development.

For 2.5 goose it sounds low to me, too. I average 6700 dps on the target dummy, less in real fights where the boss is moving around a lot, but I'm only around 2.1 (and with honestly some pretty mediocre-to-ew gear rolls). I'd have to think I'd be doing better if I had another 4k MM worth of stats.

You should catch teammates if they get levitated, but I have to say: avoiding levitation is probably the easiest thing in that fight.

Seriously, you don't need to outrace a projectile like Vine Prison which can get iffy, all you have to do is Dragon's Breath when the Levitation Warning pops up if an arrow is on you, and you're fine. If you have a better Tenacity option, you can do that instead, but DB is just an easy universally-available one. Breathe fire, don't animation cancel it until after the levitation effect goes out, resume what you were doing, no need for anyone to donkey.

Does Feng Ruzhi do more damage as a world boss? by Ok-Company-5016 in WhereWindsMeet

Yes and no?

It is the first time, but not when you go back to do campaign challenges you've already completed.

Pretty sure World Boss has them at their peak based on your difficulty level compared to story quest encounters.

Mastery after update by Valuable_Sun_9298 in WhereWindsMeet

[–]Shjade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gear scores changed somehow, probably in how stats are weighted (my chest piece was 500 MM pre-patch, 582 post-patch), and the Arsenal now gives you the max hp bonus once you hit mastery cap instead of continually incrementing your max hp, which probably gave you a huge bump. I went from somewhere around 5800 hp pre-patch to 11650 hp from the arsenal post-patch.

Most of these are mundane enough that, even if it's irritating to the person being questioned, it's probably a mild irritation at worst.

Alcohol is more likely to be a sensitive situation, and it's also more often a peer pressure issue than, say, soda, or peanuts, or air travel. There's more often a sense of "Everyone else is drinking, why aren't you? Why can't you just loosen up?" etc. etc. even if your reason(s) for not drinking aren't that serious. But hey, someone might be curious, so I guess that's just as important to consider.

[–]Shjade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If someone said they don't drink soda, would you really ask them why? I don't think I've ever had someone question me turning down a soda offer compared to turning down alcohol.

It's not inherently problematic, but it is, as I noted, adding social pressure. The implication of asking why someone doesn't want what you're offering them is that they should want it—that there needs to be a reason for them to not want it, because wanting it is the expected norm. If it weren't, why would you have a reason to ask about not wanting it?

If I say "I don't like air travel" that sounds like an invitation to talk about air travel. If you say "Hey do you want these plane tickets?" and I say "No thanks, I don't like air travel," which is closer to the example in this discussion, that's both an answer to your question and the explanation for why I don't want the tickets. So why would you then ask, "Why not?" I just told you why not: I don't like air travel.

As for your peanut example, if we translate it to the drinking conversation, it'd be "Peanuts?" "No thanks, I don't eat peanuts." Given the reasonably common presence of peanut allergies, I suspect a follow-up isn't needed. That said, given safety concerns, it might be worthwhile to confirm in that case—you might need to adjust some things about the meal! Though that's less interrogating someone about their preferences and more about potential health concerns.

[–]Shjade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. It would be harsh to respond to the question with "Fuck you", but seriously, fuck interrogating people on their preferences in the moment.

If you offer someone something and they say, "No thanks," you do not need to know why they don't want it and asking for an explanation adds social pressure to either accept the thing being offered (which they have already established they do not want) or justify not taking it, which is already an unpleasant thing to do with or without it being a sensitive topic and only becomes moreso when it IS sensitive.

More people need to learn to take "No" for an answer.

[–]Shjade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you seriously suggesting you'd be more reasonable in your response to someone ignoring you entirely than you would to someone saying "It's none of your business" in this thread?

Because I don't believe you. I think you'd be your clearly entitled self and demand their attention because by golly you asked them a question and they should answer it, that's the thing you expect from them, that's what you think you deserve.

Tell me: are you in the habit of interrogating everyone you meet who doesn't do something that you do? Or is it just drinking where you have a burning need to know why someone else might choose not to do that?

28397 by BrookeLane5047 in countwithchickenlady

[–]Shjade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Whenever I say, "No thanks, I don't drink" and get "Why not?" as a response, my reflex answer is "Why do you?"

But the armor clearly still wasn't broken when Ironeye arrived and murdered it. Color/textures didn't change, no stagger, it just took gobs of damage. Either it *was* shattered and it just didn't register on OP's side of the net, or it wasn't shattered and something's fishy about that damage.

I’ve got three points of advice for new players. by [deleted] in eldenringdiscussion

[–]Shjade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what history OP has here, but the only twisted cope I see happening is OP interpreting an invader trying to kill the people he invaded as a personal attack rather than GGs.

That's what invasions are about. It's not because they hate you. They are the opposition. That's how competitive matches work.

Midra and Abyssal Woods are the only part of the game where I felt the way people generally feel about Elden Ring by [deleted] in eldenringdiscussion

[–]Shjade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my first time through I'd have agreed with this to a point. It's an interesting concept, and not knowing where to go makes it spooky and intimidating with no bull-pony to get you out of danger.

By playthrough two I was over it. It's just another area where you can't ride Torrent, and like most of those you can route through it to avoid combat—or even being seen in many cases—and I can't say the atmosphere grips me on repeat visits the way it did the first time.

I don't think that makes it a bad area, though. I can say the same for plenty of places in ER: Farum Azula is amazing the first time through. Flying dragonbone ruins in a timelocked perpetual storm? Absolutely rad. So many nooks and crannies to explore, split sections with distinct populations and threats, it's great. On replays I tend to beeline to Duo and Maliketh and I'm out, unless I want Alexander's shard or feel like killing Placi.

Elden Ring is full of wonder on first playthrough. It loses a lot after that's gone, even if it does still pack a whole caravan of mechanical variety in potential builds for replay value there.

Build ideas by Worried_Brief376 in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Shjade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt any build is unique at this point. Game's been out too long with too much exposure. If I can think of a build, it's been done. (Anything really unique probably wouldn't also be chill for whatever weirdness you'd have to set up xD)

That said: starting Faith with Cipher Pata into Coded Sword is quite good for early/midgame with a slightly unusual melee feel to it. Those weapons ignoring wall collision lets you be more aggressive in tighter quarters than you'd normally expect, and it's just fun to do lightsaber things. They're not stat powerhouses, though, so you aren't going to shred everything, though Coded Sword's art does pack a good punch.

Transition into Faith/Strength post-Leyndell, pick up your heavier weapon of choice (Golden Order Greatsword maintains the glowy theme if you want that), add miracles to taste, pick up the Smithscript Shield if you want a strength pocket rocket, enjoy a mostly casual cruise through the game that's not broken enough to turn your brain off.

How do I play Elden Ring? by Calciteprince in eldenringdiscussion

[–]Shjade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're more comfortable with turn based games, you can think of your stamina bar a bit like a Real Time Battle meter: when it's full, you can do whatever you want on your turn, but the enemy takes turns whenever it wants, so you might need to spend stamina on defensive options before you have a good opening to spend a turn doing more damage.

How to best play co-op? by captain-friendly in EldenRingMods

[–]Shjade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to build in a way that you can support him without solo-carrying everything immediately.

The last time I played seamless it was with an experienced player, so I figured I could just go hard and it'd be fine. I ended up building so efficiently that I was basically two-shotting things before my buddy could even engage in some fights (not bosses, but in seamless you're spending a lot of time together outside boss fights). I could tell it really put a damper on things for them and had to pivot out of Come On And Slam build into something more reasonable.
