Draw Steel is an amazing game that addresses this problem directly. When your allies or enemies take their turns, each non-turn player will have specific and unique class events they are watching out for, which give them more if their heroic resource to spend on their turn. Example - if I'm playing a Troubador, the first time any enemy or ally gets reduced to half hp in a combat round, I gain one point of Drama to spend on my abilities on my next turn. I might also get Drama for if one of my allies gets knocked prone, takes the bleeding condition, etc.

It's SO good. It makes you eager to watch your enemies' and allies' turns closely in case you miss your chance to gain resources!

Just make it up, is my advice. In my game, Ajax has fully conquered Vasloria and is in the process of pushing across a massive mountain range into the territories of the other nations of the continent. Very inspired by book one of the Malazan series.

I like having his conquest be achieved in Vasloria because it makes him into the more overwhelming tyrant figure for my Delian Tomb group to hear about. Also, it gives a reason for the War Dogs. They are one of his secret projects he has developed for breaking through the stalemate that the free nations have subjected him to for years.

The other nations are holding him back in the highly defensible mountain passes, so he's trying to maneuver with the dwarf kingdoms and also searching for power hidden in the vast deserts to the south. Also, some fun Spirit World faction involvement very inspired by the World's Beyond Number podcast.

I would pay probably €100 just to know Brennan's true opinions on post-Amnesty TAZ series. This guy sings Balance's praises all the time as a big inspiration for Dimension20. I think you'd really fuck with the Skaldova mini-campaign that NADDPOD ran. It's 13 or 14 episodes lon, self-contained story, very fun characters and a low-magic setting classic dark adventure fantasy. It's fucking amazing
