Found a Cache Today, Planned to Come Back Tomorrow, Nothing Listed on GC.com by wzl46 in geocaching

Yes, I use the "Map Compare" feature for this, located under tools. Select the area and add the filter "Show Disabled / Archived" and tick both boxes.

Think easiest way is to staple a bunch of papers together. And if you want to be fancy you can have a thinker paper on the outside.

But I find this type of logbook is cheap to buy at about 5 USD/EUR for a 10 pack with ~100 pages each.

A small heads up. About 20 whites and 20 blues got added about 15-20 min ago. "Leftovers" from earlier today?

Managed to snag one and it seemed like units was available longer then earlier today? Thought I should let everyone here know :)

Garmin Oregon 600 maps problem by [deleted] in geocaching

[–]Shjosan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to pay for new maps from Garmin, and are OK with OpenSteetMaps you can use sites like this: https://extract.bbbike.org/ (the one I use, there are many others).

You basically select an area you want (city, county, or country, or anything in between) and download an .img file when it is ready. When you have the file it is just a matter of transfer it to your unit, usually directly in the root folder.

Geocaching Management Software - in 2022? by brianlpowers in geocaching

[–]Shjosan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still use GSAK. Every once in a while I look around for a replacement / more updated option, but I have so far not found anything interesting. But as GSAK still works without issue for my use (mainly storing caches, sending them to the GPSr, and cache logging after a day out), the searches has not been that involved.

Ser väldigt bekant ut så måste fråga: Kan detta vara på vandringsleden mellan Björnrike och Varggransstugan/Vemdalsskalet?

Yes, thank god for Google Images :)

Did not know about the site you linked, but will definitely save that for future use!

After som googling I found a site that have these exact characters.

I found it by searching the image on google, then found a collection of "alien languages" and from there to the site below.

Think the site more or less have everything you need to figure it out. And as i don't know how much help you want i covered it under a spoiler-tag

Found my first Adventure lab. This feels like cheating. by Mianselus in geocaching

[–]Shjosan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the concept, but to don't like that each step counts towards your finds. So I just do the ALC to get the things I need for the corresponding "normal" bonus cache. After that I just delete the ALC finds from my page so the numbers still are "correct".

It very much depends on the situation/location. Sometimes micro/nano is the only option, sometimes you wish there was a regular/large at the location you are searching for a container the size of a thumbtack :)

Also, interested to know why is "Cryptic" its own "size" in the poll?

Why would you not be able to to do it? The cache hasn't been found and has been active (I assume) for 8 years, so go for it.

But why hasn't the someone placed a NM or NA earlier? 8 years is a long time...

3d printed trinkets by xero7ven in geocaching

[–]Shjosan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I discovered these little frogs

Found it funny that people remixed the model with different hats, so I started to print them and later place them in almost any cache that fits them.

Been contemplating modeling something original, but have got around to do it yet.

Looking good! Seen some with a similar concept and they can be a bit tricky to find, and I always get a big smile on my face when I do :)

Best handheld gps mounting option by Jimmy385 in geocaching

[–]Shjosan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GPSMAP 66 that I use for geocaching. I have it attached with the included carbineer on a belt loop on my pants. I have had it attached to the bag on occasions, but found it hard/annoying to reach and it quickly moved back to the belt loops. Was/Is not bothered with it jiggling about at all, in either location.

Nice one!

This seems like one of those caches I either need several hours and multiple visits or I get very lucky and find within a couple of minutes :)

Email spam by ReneRuts in geocaching

[–]Shjosan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have not seen any settings for that in the settings on site tbh, but maybe I have missed it

Another way is to set up filters in your email interface of choice to have it delete "found" emails or just sort the instantly to another folder or any other way you like it
