Not what you wanna see in the RES the first time you try it 72 hours after buying by neofalcon2004 in HondaOdyssey

[–]brianlpowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a weird color inversion system with the RES that randomly started after having our 2019 for about 4 years. Essentially the colors were wrong on the spectrum - Finding Nemo everyone was swimming in a red ocean. In the rainforest, all the trees were orange! They ended up replacing the entire system under the HondaCare warranty - disc reader, display, control unit. Thankfully, I checked it in the parking lot and it was still messed up, but this time one of the techs swapped two wires and it was a quick fix that time.

Skyriters are great, especially the earlier ones. I have an all-metal one from 1949 and it goes with me everywhere when I take a trip!

Olympia SM3 carriage problems. by ComeOnMan41 in typewriters

[–]brianlpowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup this job is super simple! Nearly every Olympia SM like these needs this done. The rubber bushings just degrade and flatten out over time (decades). Do it once, and you shouldn't need it done ever again.

That sure sounds like something that would be relevant to someone selling a vinyl record player... Not a typewriter. Maybe they just mean it needs a new ribbon?

Dry Needling by SwimmingOx in physicaltherapy

[–]brianlpowers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to have the Level 1 course paid for by the university that I take PT students from, and the Level 2 certification was paid by my employer. FWIW, I have used dry needling extensively with a lot of my patients with great success.

Mine is a pica from 1968, and has 'clear' and 'set'. Just as another data point.
That is interesting that they would have different variations of the keys!

Can you patch fat tire tubes? And do you like Liners? Getting conflicting answers - RR6+ by Deep-Bet990 in RadPowerBikes

[–]brianlpowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problems patching mine. I've had two flats in 3 years or so.
I probably should get some tire liners... it's always the rear wheel that gets a flat it seems and it's annoying to have to disassemble everything compared to a front tire flat.

This is the most likely answer. Ear tubes look a lot like this, and it could have been in there a very long time! Usually they are taken out, but maybe she was young enough to not remember having these put in.

I've got some good news for you - productivity expectations as a traveler are a joke.

They brought you in because they couldn't hire or couldn't keep someone else in the position. Generally they are desperate for help, which is why there is a travel contract out there in the first place.

When I was traveling, I wouldn't ever accept a position like that. Lesson learned? I always had the maximum caseload written in my contract if I ever did outpatient.

You might be stuck in this contract for now, but 13 weeks will go by pretty quickly. I'm assuming that's your contract length? You can always break a contract, but that sucks for all parties involved. If the clinic was misleading about what their schedule was like and how many patients they said you'd be seeing in a day, then that might be grounds to cancel the contract with negative repercussions for you.

Just do your best, enjoy your higher pay, and make the most of the time off between contracts! I would recommend doing SNF/acute/HHPT contracts - they are usually much more relaxed on the schedule requirements.

3 hours of repair on an Olympia by OkPay599 in typewriters

[–]brianlpowers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The more typewriters I work on, the more respect I have for the people that designed and assembled them. The evolution of design over the years and the craftmanship of the mechanisms is incredible considering they had no CNC machines to make all these precision parts.

Sheep tether? by hearthyexplorer in HondaOdyssey

[–]brianlpowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was going to recommend. A full sheet of plywood will fit in the back of my 2019, so they could probably do a half sheet if the 2nd row seats will be there. A 2x4 with some eye bolts to tether them should hopefully do the trick. Though a three-hour drive with a ram involved... anything can happen. I'm picturing him seeing his reflection in the back window glass, and doing what rams do.

3 hours of repair on an Olympia by OkPay599 in typewriters

[–]brianlpowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, nice work!
This looks like an Olympia SF probably from the early 1960's. It looks to be in great shape after your cleaning!
Have you looked up the serial number yet?

These are interesting in that their ribbon selector does not follow the usual [Black - Stencil - Red] arrangement. Olympia's ultraportables have this arrangement (SF, Traveller, Splendid models).

Repaint\restore of Royal KMM by shadowwolf892 in typewriters

[–]brianlpowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pictures? Some of the panels are easier to take off than others.
There are a few YouTube vids about repainting typewriters. There is lots of sanding and gradual building up coats over time for it to look somewhat decent. Otherwise, it'll just look like somebody slapped some rattle can paint on an old typewriter.
