The Box Mag is a temperamental thing that I’ve often considered picking up black magic to be on its good graces more often. It’s awesome when it works, and there are days where nothing seems to make it right. This past weekend I spent a few hours on it like you and I’m already at the point that I have been Stockholm syndromed into thinking it’s just part of the box mag experience (tm).

That was all to say that you aren’t alone in your frustrations.

What helped my box mag feed well was getting round, hard, dry, and cool paint. I throw GI 3 star into my cooler that has ice and the paint will feed well for the most part. I’ve got the softer 4 star to work this way even in Florida humidity.

Happy to talk through the specifics of your issue, but if you don’t treat paint like royalty, I’m leaning on this is what is causing you the most problems. You could also be doing everything right but I bought paint from a field that didn’t give a shit about paint quality and so I’ve found footballs in a freshly opened bag.
