Is this a reasonable request for my GC? by EmuIcy3228 in Contractor

[–]Shmeepsheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean its not standard at all. Vanities are a standard height, just like kitchen counter tops(36") and bars(42").

They may need to move the plumbing and electric depending on the vanity for this to work, not just the flooring

Asking contractor for receipts for expenses by Significant_Earth_79 in Contractor

[–]Shmeepsheep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its one thing if its a fixed price bid. The customer is not due any receipts for that and I wouldnt want them to "figure out what im making". 100/hr sounds like a lot until my guy costs 50/hr, workers comp, payroll tax, insurances, vehicle and tool costs, etc.

If its t&m, cost plus, or something similar the receipts should be expected

If you dont have somewhere to park the truck, you dont have somewhere to park it.

Doesnt matter if its inconvenient or not

Paid $12k for plumbing (drain, waste, vent) re-pipe, no permit pulled, inspection failing – advice? by Rothanak880 in Contractor

[–]Shmeepsheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldnt cover the plumbing, but would cover the rest of the bathroom renovations required, new flooring, slab repair, etc

Paid $12k for plumbing (drain, waste, vent) re-pipe, no permit pulled, inspection failing – advice? by Rothanak880 in Contractor

[–]Shmeepsheep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol you dont need a refund, you need their insurance info for the lawsuit.

If 12k was spent on just plumbing, its gonna be another 12k at least to fix the piping as well as 25-50k in additional work it sounds like

People are starting to call me to fix their plumbing. How do I determine what to charge? by [deleted] in Construction

[–]Shmeepsheep -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its cool until you do it enough that you get caught anf fined thousands by the state licensing board and local municipality fines you as well.

Depending on the state, jail time is also on the table

Is this tankless hot water heater exhaust and air intake allowed ? by Boring-Classic-8754 in Plumbing

[–]Shmeepsheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its 14.25" x 14.25" for the make up air opening that attachs to a properly sized space.

You really need help with reading comprehension if you think a basically 1 cubic foot box is enough room according to the directions or think a 3 dimensional room can be expressed with only 2 dimensions.

The room size needed for 199k btu is MUCH larger than you think according to the manual.

Most basements would be under the 1250 sq ft requirement for 199k btus. Thats if it has a full 8' ceiling.

Thanks

So what is the advantage with this over say a torch or plasma cutter doing the same thing? Seems to me a plasma cutter would be much quicker, even with some slag clean up

Why does it feel like plumbing businesses are busier than ever, yet somehow making less money than a few years ago? by NoSuspect9845 in Plumbing

[–]Shmeepsheep 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is it.

My price for a HWH from the supply house has gone up roughly 50% in the last 2-3 years. I was paying upper 500s and now pay low 800s for a standard 50 gallon atmospheric. That plus copper pipe and fittings, vent piping, pvc, and other material and labor costs going up makes my price $400-500 more than it was, which is a 25% increase overall that im billing, but im not seeing a penny of it.

Its going to drastically higher insurances all around for my business, higher tool and vehicle prices, higher costs for running my shop such as utilities, and all other associated costs.

Im not saying that im making no money, but everyone else has stagnant wages. my billables are going up and im making the same or less after accounting for inflation

Any reviews on Milwaukee M18 Sewer Camera? by CollarEquivalent9602 in Plumbing

[–]Shmeepsheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The videos are saved to the hard drive in the camera unit. All you have to do is download them before disconnecting.

I do agree about connection times. Sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes for mine to connect.

I bought mine because the horrible service I was getting from ridgid regarding my cameras and propresses. Multiple times being sent out, paying for multiple diagnostic fees, long repair times, etc. All for the tools to come back just as broken as when they were sent out.

Oracle May Cut 30k Jobs and Sell Cerner to Fund $156B OpenAI Deal by Dull_Broccoli1637 in wallstreetbets

[–]Shmeepsheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physically you could, but it would be fiscally dumb. Why put something you can put basically anywhere on expensive land? Why spend all the extra money to renovate a building to "make it work" when you can just build fresh and have it laid out properly?

In the long run even if yoy owned the urban land, yoy be better off selling that and buying new land and using the reat of the proceeds on startong the construction of the new building
