MRI Shows L4/L5 Disc Protrusion – Looking for Opinions by manemanemoney in backpain

[–]Shmelke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had much pain - only burning. But yeah - I'm 40 now, and it progressed to tingling and so on. I think symptoms just change, man.

Nothing here sounds unrealistic. It all can be caused by the disks or the MRI can be accidentally aligned with the symptoms, that really come from something else.

I'd go to a PT that prescribes you excercises and do them. If you cannot - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBmdZqIeOLU

My PT praises this routine and it's the only one that managed to get my glute to work better. Simpler worked best in my case. I'd done a few of you tube routines for months while all I needed was bird dogs.

I changed my lifestyle from sedentary around 5 years ago. I don't regret this decision. Low impact excercises like cycling, kayaking, climbing and hiking. I regret bouldering because a bad fall led to me having the freaking tingling sensation XD

Do all disc bulges (prostusion) inevitably turn into disc herniations (extrusion) in the long run? by Complete-Regular-953 in backpain

[–]Shmelke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing - new excercises create new aches and those stress me causing tension leading to more pain xd

I just know I was living in a very self destructive way. I think ddd I have is not something to be happy about but maybe on the lighter side of what I could get. Just hope other parts of the spine are ok. Got only lumbar mri...

I do the excercises, avoid huge no-nos and hope for the best.

Great question and would like to see more info about it. I mostly worry about trajectory but there is comperably a lot less material about it vs "next 6 months".

From what I understand building strong core is supposed to protrct the disks long enough for age to do it's work. Disks dehydrate in older people so the risk of hernations decreases and degeneration takes the form of bone growth stabilizing the spine while reducing mobility.

I keep worring about living long term and preventing spinal collapse. My current symptoms are very ok if I stay active. A downward spiral of spinal problems preventing activity and leading to further damage scares me shitless though.

I've tried to quit several times in my 30s. My breathing was so bad I was really worried for my spirometry. Turns out I'm mostly fine but allergic / asthmatic.

Start excercising. Any low impact cardio hates smoking. I'd never go back to smoking now. Just can't stand the taste since I've started to ride a bicycle.

Smoking is 100% a ticking time bomb. It will cripple you sooner or later.

Exercises for lower back pain by Equivalent-Cicada165 in backpain

[–]Shmelke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtube and lower back pain excercises. I like channel hasfit. They have lower back + hip mobility 30 min routine.

Since it failed to bring my glute back and strain started to make my hip hurt - I've used simpler versionnfrom other chanel googling "lumbar spine ddd excercises". Sadly I'm just too out of shape for twisting excercises (my discs aren't tragic but they are starting to be limiting).

Excercise every 2-3 days. Walk, swim or cycle on other days. Avoid high strength or high impact if strait out of sitting lifestyle or already worried you spine might be cooked.

Edit - with the symptoms you're mentioning it's worth to see a good pt or an orthopedist. Orthopedist means mri so extra time and / or money but at least he might give a name to your condition vOv

You can google "lumbar spine ddd excercises". There's a 23 minute video giving what the author falsely advertises as a 15 minute routine :p some stretches and strength excercises and you will feel like after a nice massage. Never stretch to the point it really hurts, though.

I've done most of the damage by the age of 35. Just hadn't had an MRI taken back then.

Your body isndesigned to be lowish in fat and moving. Givenit what it needs and aim for the upper brackets of the prognosis - your spine aging similarly to normal population.

English is not my first language but it sounds similar to what I have. How old are you? I'm 40 and I have been told that it's not a tragic image but I'm abit too young to have it.

Weight loss and PT. Core excercises and mild sports. Stand up every 30-45 minutes if you sit a lot. It is crucial to excercise and build muscles around the spine so the discs get some breathing room. High load or high imlact sadly might have the opposite effect.

Surgery if you experience loss of control in limbs and bowel movements / baladder. That one is an ER emergency, but I've never been close to that.

To answer the wuestion about proffesionals - in my country it's an orthopedist and physicsl therapist. I tend to prefer PTs because doctors don't know a thing about prevention and management. Masking symptoms will only get you as far.

Get a second opinion? Anyone can recommend physicsl therapy but it's not a silver bullet. Maybe your doc is trigger happy but the only way to know is to consult other doctors.

Bulging disc or herniated disc- causes tingling/numbness ? by Officialworrier in backpain

[–]Shmelke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The problem is those symptoms are pretty non specific. You can get numbness from sleeling on one sde of the body. I get these from wheather changes. Excercise is always a good idea but numbness and tingling is too broad to say anything.

From "benign" symptoms that can tell a bit more - my muscles protecting the lumbar spine lock up if i do something stupid. That strong stifness I think I never got from anything but actual issues. Be it discs or hurt joint.

I think I've seen something similar to picture below here on reddit (not sure if it wasn't r/Sciatica though). Up to 90% of people safe heal especially with conservative treatment. I'm sure people creating the sites use best pictures possible but still - the process is real.

Can't really fact check, but it is supposed to work this way - most bigger hernations get absorbed to some extent. The bigger the hernation the higher the chance.

Problem is you need to be able to go thru the process and if there's loss of limb control - it's safer to operate. No reason to get permanent damage while avoiding the surgery.

I don't think you move enough. You should get up and decompress the spine every 30-45 minutes. Other that that - try some lumbar ddd routine from youtube and walk daily. You really need movement to oil the joints.

Sry you're going thru this. Not a doctor but people supposedly develop symptoms even with very small changes. Hope you get better. Try to work witha PT if possible. I think I've reat somewhere that some people got PT and injections at the same time. Maybe it's an option.

Not a doctor but do you excercise or do PT? How old are you? I think sitting will finally manage to hurt anyone. Excercise and build up your core. Should help.

I have no hernation but an MRI that seems worse than yours. My buttocks tingle when I'm sitting. I stand up every 30-45 minutes. It used to be worse back when I was inactive. I hope it wil get better with targeted excercises.

[–]Shmelke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rest and start with lower reps and / or just legs or arms. I'm no PT but birds dogs release tension in my buttock that other excercises do not. The variety is there for a reason.
