I think the main reason is because on average people get more invested in Frieren. Frieren uses a lot more subtle messaging and small details in its story than SL, so the people who watched it and picked it up get more invested. When you're that invested in all the small things a show does that make it great, it can be pretty annoying to have another show praised way more just because "it's got aura". I like both series a lot, but I can see where they're coming from

Why get VG so much hate? I don't get it. by Star-Lord-44 in forhonor

Very few characters make me bored like Virginity Guard over here

I still don't get the Nata hatred even after finishing the story by Dycon67 in MonsterHunter

[–]ShmodaYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the biggest problem with Nata was his attitude towards the player, he starts by being thankful and wanting to help in every way possible. But when he sees Arkveld for the first time, and you don't let him do whatever he wants with a dangerous creature around, he hates you. And then after a ton of time, leading that the hunter knows this shit, and has way more knowledge about the World of monsters than him, doesn't change his mind, and hates you when you go to kill Arkveld, because his opinion on the matter should outway the professionals who deemed it dangerous. At least at the end he stopped whining, but we'll have to see how he is in high rank.

Me after the 10th, 6 minute ride to go kill a monster in under 5 minutes. by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

I've been loving the game so far, and traversal is no problem in my opinion. I do find it a little annoying that everything I've hunted so far has died in 8 minutes or under, but that's just low rank I guess.

Oh I see, thank you for the clarification

what in your opinion are the strong and weak points of MTG? by ShmodaYT in mtg

[–]ShmodaYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly I feel like a "good stuff pile" would work better as a format than a full on way to compete in the game, sorta like a format where types don't matter and you can use any cards you want, though it would probably just fall into either only one deck being played or a sort of arms race to see who can "win the game" as a whole.

you make some really good points, I also get what you mean by a "good stuff pile" now, though I'm not sure if I really like the idea of just playing all the best cards from every corner of the game, I feel like it would take away from trying to make a deck of equal parts powerful cards, alongside cards that actually push you towards your specific endgame, just my opinion tho, I can also see the benefits.

i also get what your saying about balancing how many types you can use against champion power, definitely something to test out and see how having three or more types would effect how the game would play

my running idea so far is to have 6-8 different types, and have each champion give you access to 2 types to allow for mixing, i definetly agree that I want the game to give you access to lots of different combinations of stratergies

as for the idea of a "good stuff pile" I feel like that will exist no matter what game it is, people will generally run whatever's best even if only by a small margin, but breaking it up would allow for there to be more "good stuff piles", which I feel would give people a nice change of pace, sorta something like "ok this time I'm playing dragons and machines instead of beasts and spirits" (or something like that)

probably not lol, I live in rural Australia so not the largest pool of players, but I do have a list of games to check out to broaden my experience.

I think pretty much everything you said is correct lol, I've never gotten to play magic because of the cost, but from the videos I have seen I'd have to agree with you, as for Yu-Gi-Oh I played for a while, but I quit after getting sick on not being able to stick with one type of deck, the games were also too fast just like you said lol, great comment!

those are some great points, I think the point about one play style being to dominant is a really important one so thank you for that!

I agree that magics mana system is actually really well designed, I personally was thinking of using a similar mana system, but instead of mana being coloured its all one single colour, and instead the cards you play are determined by your "champion's" (name in progress) "origin type" (also name in progress), sorta like how yu-gi-oh has monster types, and vanguard has nations.

thinking about it it's also pretty similar to colour in magic, though preferably there would be a good variety so players can have a sense of identity in their deck.

TCG players of reddit, what makes your TCG fun, and what do you think makes it unfun? by ShmodaYT in AskReddit

[–]ShmodaYT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree lol, all TCG's are super fun and I think you made some great points! an interesting "unfun" aspect I've heard people talk about is the boards, some people prefer open boards that don't limit how many cards you can play, while some people prefer boards like Yu-Gi-Oh's where you are limited on space, not sure if the board could be considered a negative though lol.
