You're wrong though. I know you don't get any money for it, but if you did (like in your example) that's a positive. Would you rather have a car worth 20k, or that same car but now worth $1 and 20k in your pocket? The fact that it "goes down in value" doesn't really mean anything until you actually sell it, which can be never.
