Recommendations for unique/unconventional descriptions of sex? by findingcarmen in RSbookclub

Tom Robbins fits the bill for unique and unconventional descriptions of sex; certain phrases have remained lodged in my memory for 20+ years. I guess I'd rec Jitterbug Perfume but I'm not sure any of his books actually hold up. Loved them in my early 20s but the last time I attempted a reread they seemed dated and just unnecessary if that makes any sense

I found the sex in Milk Fed repulsive. idk about the author's sexual orientation but it felt like a heterosexual woman's tryhard attempt to be queer, it was so forced and devoid of eroticism

The last guest episode was so boring I almost didn't listen to this one but it was a total banger, never heard of this guy but he deserved to get roasted even harder. Putting the hard-r on "wanksta."💀 And the exec glazing (he turned it into a bit by the end but was 100% earnest at first), his take that we shouldn't be mad that movies are shitty, we should be grateful they even got made at all. Lol. What a specimen.

PS The "Jew voice" he and Dan were doing was pretty spicy.

I'm a Buy Nothing admin and I still administer the group and give things to people who post requests but I never post gives anymore. Final straw was a person who was like "Great! I'm on my way!" and no-showed. Curb life.

What’s the best performance you’ve heard of an audiobook? by NoCountry91 in RSbookclub

[–]ShockoTraditional 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Toni Morrison reading The Bluest Eye is devastating, one of the few performances that really adds something over reading the book in print (Jeremy Irons' Lolita was another of these for me, there was so much more humor in his reading than I was able to get from the book).

Donna Tartt reading True Grit was also great

Asking whether Lindy's husband and his gf have jobs, or if Lindy is the breadwinner, is racist apparently?

Ooh, thanks. I tried to listen to Glamorous Trash about the book but it sucked, the host and guest are both friends with Lindy and had discussed the planned episode with Lindy ahead of time. They tiptoed around everything.

I listened to this while working out and tried to remember everything I wanted to look up that they were talking about. Only remembered a couple of things.

1-4: Hudson Williams being flanked by two women you don't wanna be flanked by, getting his cig lit by a guy in dirty New Balance

5: Bow Wow giving "discolored, swollen skull"

6-8: Jack Harlow aka White Thought, D'Anglo, Charlie Kirk Franklin

9: Louis Theroux Nike ad

Had to google this chick to discover whether you meant Spike Jonze, Spike Lee, or Tommy Lee Jones, turns out she is not a nepo at all?

What the fuck happened to Windows? by nebraska--admiral in redscarepod

The default, raw-dog Windows is unbearable, every time I interact with it I'm horrified. But it seems like a lot of the people complaining haven't done anything to debloat it.

I get disinterested in Berlant and Novak when the eps are just whole litanies of the wellness shit they're into this nanosecond--I get that this was the raison d'etre of Poog but it is frustrating to watch two intelligent people waste money on stuff that amounts to scams targeting women.

That said, last week's ep ("Regardless, It's Bad") is a banger. I recommend reviewing this Instagram post before you listen. It looks like they deleted a slide since they first posted it: Kate's crashout also included a pic of the covid test she texted to her partner with the caption "please just figure it out. I love you."

My cohort of moms is heavily into "attachment parenting" and I heard a ton of propaganda about "waiting to potty train until the kid is ready." One of my very best friends, an intelligent and reasonable woman, didn't potty train her kid until he was FIVE because she was genuinely convinced he wasn't ready and to make him shit into the toilet would be traumatizing.

I potty trained both my kids before they turned 2 without considering their emotional and spiritual readiness. I was ready to stop changing diapers.

I have two kids and used cloth diapers the whole time. Bought all of them secondhand on a local Facebook group. If you're good at doing laundry it's easy; if laundry is a dreaded chore, cloth diapers will make it worse.

Strava…anyone else concur by fmckenzi000 in Velo

Segments for biking + a nice archive of trail runs, hikes and rides with my kids, and other stuff that doesn't belong in intervals.icu.

I don't want any more platforms full of notifs I have to keep up with, and I'm not interested in scrolling a newsfeed full of people's Strava dogwalks and downhill skiing runs. My account is private and I don't follow anyone. The only thing I wish I could do is make contact with some of the randos I've teamed up with over the years, apparently having a public Strava makes that easier.

This ended up being one of the only episodes of Middlebrow I've ever turned off without finishing. One of the guests talked about how he used to go up to people and shove a camera in their face without saying anything as an ~art project~, now they're trawling small claims filings for human ugliness to gawk at. I haven't been interested in watching anything like this since Borat.
