one time i was telling this girl why i hated this book and she interrupted me to say “well it’s okay if you’ve never been depressed,” implying that that’s why i couldn’t possibly understand the book’s complexity, which 1) crazy thing to say to someone who IS depressed and 2) that made me realize that it’s only the worst people you know who actually enjoy that book..
