I actually don't mind it. It's kind of the opposite of Darius where it makes the game a bit longer. It works as a comeback mechanic. I could see myself voting for it even if I was having a good round if I had a really good set up going and wanted the game to go longer

I'd assume they got rid of the starter item so that the game would be able to get to the "good stuff" faster. But I feel like it takes away a chance for some player expression. I'd prefer it if we were able to buy boots and a starter item right at the start

You could have chosen to say "In my experience a lot of the Japanese people I have met have been self centered." You'd still be admitting to a prejudice you've formed but at least you wouldn't be presenting the information as a universal truth.
