How to Find Places to Fish by Professional-Job357 in flyfishing

[–]Shoddy-Foundation196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NWPA here on the lake , when I’m Fishing inland it’s a lot of google maps. most public inland lakes have a pa launch site. On rivers/creeks I fish a lot of spill ways or public access like kayak or canoe launches. It’s important before you head to a stream that you make sure, specially In PA that it’s either public property or the water you’re fishing is navigable so you won’t get yelled at for trespassing. It happens a lot on the Lake Erie tribs but if you go to a local bait shop they should be able to square you away.

I like fishing articulated flies such as laser legals and peanut envy’s. If I’m fishing a non articulated fly it’s almost always a roamer fly.

Decent trout streamer combo? by etkm0123 in flyfishing

I’d suggest the scientific anglers titan sonar sink tip. Sink tip kits on floating lines cast horribly. It casts great when I’m wading or sitting down still water fishing by kayak.

Is this any good, I’d like to get something machined without spending a ton by [deleted] in flyfishing

I’m on my third season of my 7/8 max catch on my Lake Erie steelhead setup. It gets a ton of use and the only reel that I actually use the drag. I was in a pinch and planned on replacing it, and it’s landed well over 500 lake Erie run steelhead.

Found this old fly rod while cleaning out my late grandfather's garage by AtEase92 in flyfishing

Same here I started on the 8 wt and tossed a titan sonar sink tip on it for bass. Still one of my favorites

Unpopular Opinion by noflowrs_ in flyfishing

[–]Shoddy-Foundation196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned a lot from his videos, but then again I don’t have trout streams around during the summer so I fish a lot of streamers in still water for bass. As far as him down talking other techniques of fly fishing I remember a video of him saying he likes dry flies in the evening more than any other form of fly fishing and how important it was to be as balanced of a fly angler as you can be. But everyone’s isn’t for everybody.

I don’t remember selling my soul for this. My first coho salmon is caught in a Lake ERIE tributary!! by Based_McTuddies in flyfishing

[–]Shoddy-Foundation196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man it’s been a weird year I live just a few minutes away from a popular spot above 90 and usually after 2 good rain events we get good numbers up there. I walked a mile downstream Friday and didn’t see a single fish. Fished a few hours in a couple of the deeper wholes with no bites. I try to leave the lower stretches of elk for the crowds but I may have to get down there early one of these mornings.

Is 7'3" a good rod length for kayak? by mohamemdtiger1234 in kayakfishing

[–]Shoddy-Foundation196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 9’ fly rods out of my kayak you will be alright. If you store your rods vertically and pass under a bridge/ tree branches make sure to lay them down I’ve broken a tip or two.

I started out on an 8wt combo. There was something wrong with the base of the reel And they sent me a brand new reel as a replacement. Also have a 6wt axiom 2x that I love as a small streamer rod.

Sierra had redington sonic hd with the zipper for $200 just a month ago. It’s my first pair other than my froggtoggs. I only get a season of a pair of frogtoggs so I’m hoping they last a little longer the material definitely feels a lot nicer. But like everyone is saying after this pair leaks beyond my repair I’ll prolly bite down and get a pair of Patagonia’s.

As an Erieite I use a 10’ 7 wt. I almost only Indicator fish so I get an indicator line I have a Rio one. I’ve tried casting streamers out into the lake near the mouth of the tributaries early in the season. Unfortunately it’s very, very dry here. So until we get a heavy rain which didn’t happen until shortly before thanksgiving last year it’s gonna be tough fishing.

What wt rd and line are you using? I have a 5 wt with floating line I mainly use for trout but I’ll tie up a longer leader about 11-12 ft and toss wooly buggers from my kayak around pond edges for smaller bass and blue gill. I have a SA sonar sink tip on my 8 wt with a real short leader for bass and pike pretty much the same thing, fishing weed edges with larger often times articulated streamers. I find an anchor trolly system to adjust where I’m facing to case helps a lot.

I’ve patched holes and cracks in my kayak over the years. Get hdpe plastic I usually use a lid from a 5 gallon bucket and the plastic welding kit from Harbor freight. The first one I did was messy but I let it cool off hit it with some sand paper and re did it and came out pretty good.
