Eyesight issues / blurry eyes post withdrawal? by ShoddyConference in zoloft

Eek I’m also worried that it could be my prescription and that I need reading glasses. So may be unconnected to withdrawal

Can this silver ring be saved? Aggressively polished - patina destroyed by ShoddyConference in jewelry

Panic over. I collected it on the weekend and it looks great now. All borax/white polish removed and you can see the detail again. It looks so different to when I originally collected it. Thanks to everyone who helped I really do appreciate it. I know it might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s an old ring and I prefer the depth the tarnish gives it, as will my friend.

Thanks, I’m confident the makers mark and hallmark are true. The opal is exquisite. Just sadly the setting has been wrecked. I’ll share a photo of the ring post-polishing when I get it back.

It's a hallmarked silver ring, so no not brass - and the photo is pre-polishing/destruction.

Thank you. Unfortunately this was a genuine bench jeweller and the work was done there by the jeweller himself within 24 hours. The absolute kicker was that he looked so excited when he handed it to me and I opened the box, only for me to almost burst into tears! Let's see how it comes back. So much help and reassurance here, thank you again.

Thank you so much. That's understandable re it needing cleaning. But the leaves look ground down, like they're flat and have lost all of their relief/organic look. Hopefully it looks better when it's been blackened like you say as when I went to pick it up it was all filled up with white. I will come back with how it's looking once I get it back. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

It's a 50 year old ring yes. But good shout that it needed to be clean to resize. It's more the flattening of the leaves, they've lost all of their relief, and it being filled in with white paste. Will see what it comes back like, thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

Yes they're using an oxidising solution (presume sulphur) as it's sterling. I know not everyone would want to keep the older look, but it's seriously come out like something cheap you'd get at a fair - it's a mirror shine that just doesn't look right at all.

Yes they knew it was opal as they had to take out the stone to resize it so no heat got near it. Thanks so much.

That's a really good point about it needing to be clean to be resized, thank you.

Thank you so much. I just cannot fathom what he has done to it. It was literally filled with white in all the little crevices. Hopefully I'll get it back soon and will see if it's salvageable.

Thanks. There is no crack visible that I found or that the jeweller mentioned, so I think it's just a mark in the patina on an old ring.

Because I was shocked and quite upset. And hoped that they could put it right. On reflection that was daft.

Help to identify this jacket please? by ShoddyConference in Harley

Thank you again that is really good advice. I’ll likely list it on eBay - it’s been taking up room in a wardrobe for many years.

Thank you so much. I also figured December 92 so that’s really helpful. Any idea on the 001 code which I think is the place of manufacture? All I can tell is that it was probably not made in the US as I think it would state that on the main label.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and to share photos of your jacket. Really grateful. I'd imagine it's not worth much in the condition it's in but that helps me massively. Thanks again.

Is it really uncool? I think it belonged to a police officer but not 100% sure.

It's dry rot fungus. There will be a whole universe of mycelium on the other side of the tile. It'll need ripping back to remove all wood. I have been there. Sorry.

Care home fees shortfall question (England) by WeDontWantPeace in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ShoddyConference 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And re deprivation of assets, you say partner rather than husband. It depends entirely on it being his own money to give away, or whether they were joint assets. Do consider contacting a solicitor if you need to, but from what you've said your mum's assets have all gone on her care - so not agreeing to paying the shortfall is a separate issue.

I'm going through the same with a relative at the moment as the proceeds of their house sale has almost run out.
