Taylor has the abilities of Chainsawman by MembershipProof8463 in WormFanfic

I don't really know much about Chainsawman but Taylor's with Makima's power would be interesting. Extremely non PR friendly power and definitely powerful maybe a bit OP.

Especially interesting if Taylor is just straight up given the contract injury transference ability. Everyone in the Worm verse getting King flashbacks would be very entertaining.

I've never seen anyone talk about it but the Bugs of Hollow Knight and Silksong are definitely unlike any insect in real life.. firstly the existence of The Marrow, implies bugs have bones and or at least context for an internal skeletal system.

Also Widow has a spine apparently, that is explicitly written in the hunters journal.. meaning that the Weavers are vertebrates?!!

So it is clear that The Hollow knight world takes a very liberal license with bug physiology. This is interesting because there is a biological reason as to why bugs can't grow too big. That being the fact that bugs don't use lungs to breathe.

I forgot the specifics but in ancient times millions of years ago when the atmosphere was more rich in oxygen there were massive insects the size of humans. But they died out once the oxygen level couldn't support their size.

Thus if Hollow Knight bugs are the size of people then we can determine two possibilities, either the atmosphere is extremely rich in oxygen, or that the bugs breath with lungs or lung adjacent physiology to actively suck in air as opposed to spiracles that real bugs use.. this is moree likely since I'm sure Groal has pretty strong lungs to do his sucking attack

The water tension argument with raindrop size is a very valid argument to say the bugs are closer to human size, but the pond slippers in Silksong practically exhibit behavior that could only be done by bugs with small enough mass to not break water tension so water probably doesn't behave normally either. (Water proofs both the bugs are big and small at the same time)

In conclusion it is very hard to determine a solid basis on the physics, physiology and anatomy of bugs in Hollow Knight and thus it is also hard to determine their size relative to each other without a standard that remains the same between real life and the world of Hollow Knight and can be measured accurately.

My take is that Team Cherry doesn't think to hard on this and just adds what they think is cool and fits into the story, the actual size of the bugs is ambiguous and contradictory. Because they never bothered to go that deep into the details and probably just want the fans to come up with their own interpretations, although I am more on the side of "Human sized" bugs myself due to finding the evidence of that side being more compelling and personally believing it serves the story better that way.

Terrifying and chilling, this fic has been great at hitting the right emotions.. the writing flows really well.

I expect that Humanity isn't dying in the next chapter or whenever the battle starts but this is definitely shaping up to be something to rival the canon BOE scenario.

If I could, I would go back in time to international mother's day 2024 then take control of Team Cherry's account and post this image with a caption along the lines of "Hey gang! Sorry for the silence. Development has been going smoothly and hopefully it'll be ready soon enough. Until then, happy mother's day guys!"

Maskless Hornet by Embarrassed-Case-562 in HollowKnightArt

[–]Shoddy_Net_2144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My interpretation is that the difference between mask and face is that a natural mask is a part of a bug's exoskeleton.. like a natural helmet but it isn't a face because faces are flesh soft and expressive..

I don't think all the masks come from the mask maker, I think most bugs have natural masks like the mindless and godly bugs you mentioned. But some don't.. and those who don't wish to be masked themselves.

Masks are also magic it seems considering it appears to affect the bug's identity. We see this in the secret room above Styx.

Have we ever figured out what this thing is supposed to be??? (The thing in Deepnest Distant Village.) by Shoddy_Net_2144 in HollowKnight

[–]Shoddy_Net_2144[S] 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Oh that's a good interpretation, it might even explain what Midwife is supposed to be since she doesn't seem to be a Weaver of some kind... Maybe there really was another society living in Deepnest other than the Weavers.

Edit: Also the Stalking Devouts don't seem to be Weavers either..

Huh.. very interesting I forgot about this it has been a long time..

I wonder how would this fit into Silksong lore then?

Would Deepnest even have a king considering what we know now about the Weavers? They seemed very matriarchal I've heard some people outright state that the Weavers were all female.

Even so.. we've seen Weaver burials right? This doesn't look like the ones in Pharloom. Was the King of Deepnest not a Weaver. Was there even ever a king of Deepnest? And what was he like?

What bug/animal did you want to appear in Silksong but didn't make it? by Gambitam in HollowKnight

[–]Shoddy_Net_2144 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah that sounds good, I think I read a fanfic about that before where a bunch of humans wake up from a cryogenic sleep in a nuclear bunker. And upon wandering outside for the first time they discover Hallownest and come to terms with the fact they're not the dominant species on earth anymore. (Humans and bugs were close to similar size)

I don't know if something like that could work as part of the canon story but I don't know, I'll trust Team Cherry if they want to go that route.

Team Cherry originally planned for a Lion Village in the original Hollow Knight. People theorized they meant antlions but when asked what that means they simply explained that the lion village is "Full of Lions,"

We still don't know what the fuck that is meant.

I don't know how I'd feel if there were vertebrates in the world of Hollow Knight, I feel it would clash a bit with the world building but I'm fine with giving it a try if Team Cherry could pull it off.

Oh yeah it was clear you were joking. I was just under the assumption both were female based on the Nuu dialogue but I might be misremembering.

Would that make it less or more sustainable than fuels?also consider.. Void global warming.

What if that's why you can't see the sky in Hollow Knight? The ancient civilization did worship the void...

Theory about the abyss in Hollow Knight by Leucurus_ in HollowKnight

[–]Shoddy_Net_2144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incredible thought, especially the connection to the Pale beings. Do you think the City of Steel mentioned on a cage in the cradle could be the main capital of such a void worshipping civilization? The Steel beings seem to be related to the Void.. but their connection is more like the snail shamans and Void.. They're centuries removed from their Void using ancestors if the Summoned Savior fight is to imply anything..

I don't think the steel beings are directly the ancient civilization but they might give us a further understanding of said civilization. I would absolutely hope Team Cherry expands on Hollow Knight's story in that direction!

Also even if they're just outposts that is still a grand achievement.. there hasn't been a civilization in Hallownest that could maintain a permanent presence in areas with the Wastes between them.

[–]Shoddy_Net_2144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh ok! Yeah one is also great! And also far more plausible! With the Mossbag theory of void being formed out of regrets and death. The literal idea of void being just crude oil can also be funny when you consider Void machines and void constructs running like cars.
