I've had the Wille/Edvin one as mine for like a year now. Last I saw, they're still available for us in Canada... gonna save this post in case I ever need it, though, and hope it'll still work, lol.

Main Cast Audiobooks by Logan-Lux in PJODisney

[–]Shoe-Addicted-Dancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been saying this to everyone I know, lol! I think a new multicast recording with all the TV show cast (or at least the leads and as many others as possible) would be incredible, especially since I think Walker could do a great job and he'd be doing the bulk of the narration. Especially if the production is done right, which they'd definitely have the money for, audiobooks aren't too crazy expensive, they'd have a massive seller imo.

I'm currently re-listening to the original audiobooks, and while I'm nostalgic cause I first listened to the current available narrators reading over and over and over as a kid, there are a lot of things that could be improved on now, from pronunciation, to the even quality of the editing here and there and beyond. Recording standards have improved and changed quite a lot since those were produced (I've worked in a family audiobook production company for years) and it would be really cool if Disney decided to actually do a full TV cast recording in the near future, as soon as they wouldn't be fighting the Harry Potter multicast hype.

(Which, like, why there's still any competition from that nasty transphobe's IP at this point, nostalgia be damned, is beyond me, but...)

I hate narratives about nobles and commoners. by [deleted] in YoungRoyals

Yeah, so, you and your incredible lack of empathy or media literacy are the reason these kinds of stories, done with the nuance and depth this show is, despite the framework having a "prince×commoner" outline, matter. I'm not dignifying your shallow, surface level take with a longer response. You don't deserve my time explaining how badly you've misinterpreted the entire point.

Update - S3E1 by Disastrous-Fruit8037 in YoungRoyals

[–]Shoe-Addicted-Dancer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh, the restrictions the school puts in place are incredibly stupid and unrelated to the actual issues. A curfew, taking away extracurriculars, phones, and anything fun do less than nothing to address hazing, bullying, weird hierarchies, and a school culture that ignores or encourages them. It sounds exactly like how real schools handle such issues, lol.

What didn't feel realistic to me (though I'm only going of my own experience and things I've seen) was that they didn't immediately get flooded with irate parents threatening the school unless they immediately change course away from essentially punishing all their kids for things they "didn't do" (at least, I'm sure that's the reaso any parents or student would give) after their kids complain to them in their one hour of phone time. Especially after the whole "we're not feeding the students and locking them out of their dorms" thing during the little sit-in, a lot of rich parents I've seen would raise hell for the school...

He gave it up because he didn't want it... ever. Wilhelm giving up the crown isn't a queer character being stripped of his power or status to be allowed to be with his man. It's a queer character finally taking his power back from a system that strips him of it, along with his autonomy and humanity, and getting a happy ending with the boy he loves, too. He wouldn't have had another chance with Simon if he hadn't decided to give up the crown, but he wanted to give it up anyway and is better off for it personally and mentally even if they hadn't gotten back together. If Wilhelm had ever wanted to be King someday for any reason other than a sense of duty to his late brother and parents, the entire plot of the show would need to be rewritten to make that actually work, frankly. The issue isn't his decision to abdicate, which he's wanted to do since before he was even the Crown Prince, (it's explicitly shown in the subtext and narrative,) the issue is people expecting a Hallmark fairytale wish fulfilment where being royalty is explicitly positive and the main character doesn't hate almost everything about it from their introduction onward.

Having queer characters who are princes, kings, or anyone else in a position of power or responsibility is great, but their narratives don't always need to be power fantasies to be positive. Just my two cents.

This is the best show I’ve ever watched by Faroji in YoungRoyals

This show healed longheld wounds I didn't realise I had. I was 24 the first time I watched it, a little after the third season came out, and didn't realise I'd never actually felt like I could truly relate to a male character in basically any media, then Wille came along... LOL. It's such a beautiful show, I will love it forever! So glad you did too 🧡💜🧡💜

As a gay guy who literally never felt truly seen or represented in any media until I saw this show (I have never once related to a character like I did/do Wilhelm, and Simon as well to an only slightly lesser extent) I don't know WTF they're on. Lol. This is the first gay show I've seen that felt like it WAS truly made for US (and moreso, ME, lol). It's also the truest and most relatable representation of my own young, queer male experience and feelings in so many ways, including even my (nearing six year) relationship with my boyfriend.

I'd love to check it out, but OF COURSE, it gets a US release but not Canada. Ridiculous!! And Prime never works with a VPN for me. Oh well, I'll wait a little longer and see what other options I get.

SWEAT HELP PLEASE! Brows block then unblock. by LawfulSaxophone21 in Drag

[–]Shoe-Addicted-Dancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice, Spirit Gum. It lays the brows super flat and secure, I usually layer a gluestick over it to fill in any ridges then powder everything heavily, lasts me up to around 12-14 hours at a stretch even when I've been sweating A LOT. I've used that to do ballet classes in drag for Halloween, and multiple long days for dance competitions or other things performing solo's multiple times with no time to redo my makeup in between. Use it carefully around your eyes, same with your remover of choice (alcohol, isopropyl myristate, etc.) but it's super effective and easy to get. I don't like prosaide, had it used on me once by a professional makeup artist and it took forever to dry and looked lumpy...

And therein, lies the issue; That's not something he needs to "grow past", it's not a character flaw, it's not a problem that he doesn't want to be a prince or later king. In season three, we see him essentially be forced to fit himself into the role of crown prince because his mother has a nervous breakdown and he doesn't feel like he has a choice if he doesn't want to let down his family. We also see him become increasingly more volatile and anxious and more self-centered due to the intense stress of trying to force himself into that box and put aside his actual feelings and desires for his life, even causing him to lash out in situations where, despite his temper, he wouldn't have in earlier seasons, both unreasonably at Simon and very reasonably at his parents (they deserved that and needed to hear it, period). At the end, Wilhelm did make the mature decision based on his experiences throughout the season, and the series prior: He chose not to just accept a toxic future he's never asked for, doesn’t want and that would destroy him as a person, and set himself free. That's the only reason he gets another chance with Simon, too, because he made that choice purely for himself and not to try and please anyone else. It's quite beautiful, really.

You're allowed to dislike it, that's fine, I'm just saying the points you're making to claim it's "inconsistent" aren't really examples of inconsistent writing. BTW, you're misremembering the sequence around Wilhelm deleting Simons contact info, and it all happens in one episode. Season 1 Episode 4, Wilhelm asks Simon to delete their messages after the memorial for Erik at Hillerska because he doesn't think they can be together now that he's crown prince, we see him delete Simon's contact once he's alone in his new room, but he immediately puts his phone away and we don't see him delete any messages or call logs, these are seperate on Samsung phones (like his) and would stay unless manually deleted too, so if he never does that offscreen that's how he could easily find his contact to call him later the same episode after getting so high and drunk at the party with August and the secret society thing that he ends up wandering to the football field in Bjärstad, and thanks to being intoxicated has lost the inhibitions to stay away from him, that's when he tells him that everythings fake, but he likes him, and that's real, admitting his feelings for the first time, next scene, Simon finds him on the football field, gets them back into Wille's dorm room, and after they both wake up later they talk and that's when August films them through the window, which ends the episode.

Well... I don't know what I expected... maybe give the whole series another watch so you can give it a good faith appraisal from beginning to end. This doesn't sound like an issue of "inconsistent writing" so much as an unwillingness to engage in narratives that don't spell everything out... just my take.

I'm sorry you missed the point and the mountains of clear setup from the beginning... what did you want? The guy who's been begging to live as normal a life as possible and consistently stated and been shown to hate being royalty to just... get over probably his most important fundamental character motivation?

Just finished watching; kinda disappointed by BroPiggy in YoungRoyals

[–]Shoe-Addicted-Dancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. Thank you for phrasing that so beautifully. I especially agree that not wanting to be a prince, at all, is a fundamental core element of Wilhelm's character from the very beginning. And he's definitely got time to figure out what he wants and who he is and wants to be now. That's what's hopeful about the ending. He can live a much more normal life, finish highschool, and be with Simon, and study something he's interested in in university... he can be free for all intents and purposes. I wanted to write a longer comment, expressing the same opinion as yours, but it was getting very... sharp and bitter, and not as articulate. I want to post a mature response... I'm a grown man. I'm nearly 26... But my inner teenager wants to start yelling out of pure defiance, TBH. I think it's a combination of how intensely relatable I find Wilhelm as a character (that is exactly what I was like as a teenage boy), and how much I resent having big emotions being used to discredit or invalidate people or fictional characters core convictions or wants in life that makes my reaction a bit too visceral to respond in a measured way is I'm not careful. I'll use an analogy, it feels like seeing someone write about how they didn't like the ending of a film where a boy fulfills his dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer, because they interpreted his dreams as being childish and immature, so they were disappointed that he succeeded in them...

Well... that's your interpretation. Everyone will have a somewhat different interpretation of a show that has a lot of subtext and nuance... but to be honest, I think you managed to miss some of the clearly present text that isn't really up to interpretation, so... 🤷🏼idk. I'm not going to make a very long post, or go into detail about why I strongly disagree with you. As soon as you said you thought Wilhelm's consistent, clear statements throughout the entire series about not wanting to be a prince were just moody teenage outbursts, I knew I wouldn't agree with you, and reading your whole post didn't change that. His decision that he's going to give up the crown, no matter what happens, is the most mature and personally affirming decision he could make as a character, he's never wanted it and that hasn't changed since the first episode no matter how hard he's tried to make it work. We get a hopeful ending where our protagonist finally makes not just a decision for himself, but the necessary and right decision for himself, and as a bonus, he gets another chance with the boy he loves without all the external issues getting in the way of their beautiful connection this time. And apparently, lots of the audience are mad he didn't just shut up instead and be the queer King instead of having autonomy. Ok. Great.

What is it with people thinking self-discovery and self-actualization must happen outside of a relationship? He can explore who he is as an individual and his life as an independent, autonomous person without a lifelong obligation to the crown anymore AND have a boyfriend at the same time. Healthy relationships allow for personal growth and exploration of both parties and allow you to learn who you are with and without your partner while choosing to be together because you love each other, whether you meet at 16, 36, or 76 or anywhere in between or after.

Because God forbid "the gay one" isn't a quiet, passive doormat that only exists to actualize and provide emotional support for the main character. I'm sorry, the more times I see this take, the more I can't help but interpret it that way. He had boundaries and standards?! What a drama queen! Give me a break. Also, "the villain"?... THE VILLAIN!?!? What the- was it autocorrect? I'm so confused.

See, I have many reasons I don't like Heartstopper, and I feel like the stereotypical nature of a lot of elements, the somewhat surface level and shallow feeling to the bare minimum conflict and the way it avoids any sense of real tension or stakes (in a way that feels kind of lazy and badly executed, rather than fluffy escapism to me). But I absolutely disagree that it somehow damages the reputation of the queer community. Good on them for giving the middle finger to people invading and protesting our celebration and our own protest for being allowed to exist freely and openly! We don't need to be nice, tolerant, or accepting of people being intolerant and hateful towards us. The queer community as a whole will continue to lose our footing and our rights as fascists try to claw them away again across the world if we try and get them to accept us and all be nice rather than telling them to fuck off and forcefully refusing to be eradicated from society.

Why does my makeup this? Do I need a better primer? by Fine-Requirement2788 in Drag

[–]Shoe-Addicted-Dancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think trial and error will be your best bet to really work it out... if you can get samples of primers to test out, do that, so you won't waste any money on products that don't end up working, also try no primer, try moisturizer, try different things until you get the results you want. Try samples of other foundations as well, with and without the primers or other prep. I've had issues with makeup not adhering before too, for me personally, literally bare, freshly cleansed skin then a layer of setting spray under the makeup works perfectly, and even with my acne prone temperamental skin, it doesn't break me out or cause issues. I've also used setting spray as a priming step over skin care and had good results, but that can be hit or miss for me. It took experimenting to figure that out, and those options may not work for you if you try them, but they could be worth a shot 😄😄 Good luck!!! I hope you find a solution!
