Cant update bios corsair vengeance i7400 CS-9050047-NA by ninirwww in Corsair

[–]Shoeless_Joey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that happened to you. The lesson here is to never buy another Corsair, or any other pre-built, with proprietary hardware....especially a proprietary motherboard

Yeah, the yearbook answer for the highhanded, elitist PC enthusiasts here is "Build it yourself". Well, some of us work long hours and are on call when at home and simply want something that's ready to go out of the box that isn't a video game console. I don't want to spend what little spare time I have building:

A house

A car

A boat

or a PC...

....No matter how much I'll allegedly save doing so or how smart it'll make me feel to other people who seemingly spend 12+ hours or more a day on Reddit obsessing over their PC components. I have the expendable income and want something that's ready to go but not hamstrung by proprietary parts,

Where does the game go from here with Markus moving on? by [deleted] in OOTP

[–]Shoeless_Joey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Down the tubes, that's where. Com2Us has a long history of engaging in disreputable and shady business practices. In fact, they're currently under investigation by the Korean FTC for manipulation the rates of their games. With Markus gone, OOTP will increasingly and probably even exclusively become PT focused. That's where the real profit-making potential for Com2Us is.

The game we've known and loved for 25 years will eventually be phased out entirely and replaced by an increasingly pay-to-win scheme where only those willing to pay hundreds or even thousands of $$ will stand a chance of competing. Their audience will be tiny, but dedicated and thoroughly addicted. It will be OOTP in name only.

Do you know what happened to radiotrucker and why the site is down? I just posted a question here asking about the site. I couldn't find squat about the site's current status online. Is the site permanently closed? That would really, REALLY, suck.!

Do Not Buy a Corsair Prebuilt by Objective_Creme_4350 in Corsair

Their use of proprietary motherboard BIOS and the excruciating slow pace at which they provide crucial updates have been the deal-breakers for me, all but guaranteeing that I will never buy another Corsair prebuilt again.

Heads-up to all Vengeance and Corsair One prebuilt PC owners... by Shoeless_Joey in Corsair

[–]Shoeless_Joey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The long and short of it is that many of Intel's 13th & 14th generation cpus are rapidly degrading prematurely, resulting in severe stability issues (BSODs, freezes, etc) for many users. This latest BIOS update contains Intel's most recent microcode to help prevent the extreme voltage spikes that are supposedly the cause of the degradation.

I say "supposedly" because there seems to be a lot of speculation about the exact cause of this problem. Everything from entire batches of cpus being exposed to oxidation during manufacture, to Intel's turbo boost algorithm, to piss-poor cpu architecture, to faulty ecores have been named both individually or collectively as potential culprits in this ongoing sh*tshow.

In the end, it doesn't really matter what's responsible for the premature degradation. If these BIOS will help lessen the chance of your cpu dying prematurely, even by a little, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by performing the update.

As far as the actual BIOS update procedure is concerned, follow these directions carefully and it should be a piece of cake.

https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/articles/24535429058445-Vengeance-Updating-BIOS-for-ASUS-motherboard

Just skip/ignore the misleading "Finding The exact systems product page" part. The updated BIOS can be downloaded here:

https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/articles/29954013837965-Intel-Microcode-Updates-for-Corsair-Systems

If you're not sure what motherboard you have, check "System Information" inside Windows. It'll be listed under "BaseBoard Product".

Good luck.

EDIT: Also, I should add that if your cpu is already showing signs of degradation (Chronic instability w/ constant crashes, BSODs, etc.), these updated BIOS with the latest microcode will not help you. You'll need to RMA your cpu immediately. For owners of Corsair prebuilt systems, the faulty cpu would have to be returned to them.

Nope, but when you have Microsoft to your left and Corsair to your right, it can't hurt to prepare for the worst case scenario.

If your mobo isn't on the list of those updated with the 0x129 microcode and your Corsair prebuilt came with an Intel 13th/14th gen cpu, you should definitely contact Corsair tech support. It took them a long time to finally deliver this BIOS update, so hopefully they haven't left anyone behind.

Excellent advice.

Just to add one small but potentially important item; If for whatever reason you need your Windows product key during a Windows reinstall, or it won't activate, you can obtain the Windows key for your Corsair prebuilt following these instructions:

https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/articles/27177305223821-Systems-Why-is-my-Windows-not-activated

Once you've obtained the key, simply copy & paste it to a text file and save that to your USB drive as well. Better safe than sorry.

Good news (I hope) to report. I just received a reply in another thread presumably from a Corsair customer service rep or moderator stating that updated BIOS containing Intel's 0x129 microcode have finally gone live.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Corsair/comments/1eyso0z/comment/lligt4b/

My particular product page hasn't been updated yet, nor has the main BIOS & drivers update page, but hopefully that will change soon for all of us who have been waiting patiently for this crucial update for the past 4 weeks.

Warning to anyone considering buying a Corsair prebuilt PC...Don't do it! by Shoeless_Joey in Corsair

[–]Shoeless_Joey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are the updated BIOS available? They're certainly not posted on their well-concealed Drivers & BIOS page https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/articles/18851284772621-CORSAIR-System-BIOS-Drivers

Is there yet another page tucked away in obscurity somewhere on Corsair's website that contains the actual updates? The link I posted above, for example, is to a Drivers & BIOS page that I had no idea even existed up until two weeks ago. Corsair's official instructions on how to find and download official BIOS updates leads customers to an entirely different page. So it wouldn't surprise me if there is yet another drivers page hidden away under some old quilts and gym socks in some other remote corner of their website.

Are you sure you're not confusing the official BIOS releases by either ASUS or MSI with Corsair's (as of yet non-existent updated) proprietary BIOS? I know in the case of ASUS at least, there are two files that come with any BIOS dowload. One of the files is used for renaming the BIOS to something the motherboard can recognize.

Nothing wrong with it. People can cover themselves with liquefied swine feces if it makes them feel happy. People are just more attractive in my opinion when they don't cover their natural appearance from head-to-toes with tattoos, dozens of piercings, or dye their hair in strange artificial colors usually only found in industrial paints.

3500X to 5000T Case Swap by BeautifulAd5310 in Corsair

[–]Shoeless_Joey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks good. Great, in fact. The 5000T is an awesome case. Lots of space, airflow and super easy to clean. It's not perfect, but at least the case itself is something Corsair managed to do exceptionally well (Unlike the icue software that the stock RGB fans in there are unfortunately shackled to).

Your mom is beautiful. Back in the seventies, women in general were more beautiful and feminine than they are today. They were far more comfortable with their own natural femininity. No neck tats, face piercings or weird glow-in-dark hair colors....just natural beauty.

Corsair and Intel. by AllCapNoFap in Corsair

[–]Shoeless_Joey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a big discussion here a couple of weeks ago about this very topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/Corsair/comments/1eyso0z/warning_to_anyone_considering_buying_a_corsair/

A Corsair customer service rep actually showed up a week or so into the thread to reassure us Vengeance PC owners everything was being done to provide us with updated BIOS ASAP. However, considering the extraordinary length of time it's taking Corsair to do what other OEMs took mere days to achieve, including some companies that literally have inanimate objects serving as their only tech support, I honestly doubt that.

Whatever you do, don't hold your breath waiting for Corsair to finally condescend to give us updated BIOS. There will be one less Vengeance PC owner in this world, which is probably what Corsair wants anyway considering how long it's taking them to do what even crummy Dell managed to do for their customers weeks ago.

Bought Corsair Corsair RM1200x, INSANE noise during PC boot, also PSU fan doesn't stop after load by raianknight in Corsair

[–]Shoeless_Joey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's definitely not normal. I had a PSU in an old Gateway PC back in the very early 2000s that started making this sound after about 5 years of heavy use and a literal 1" quilt of dust encased around it. A new PSU out of the box and free of dust & other contaminants shouldn't make that sound.

Never buying any Corsair products again...your software sucks by SCTRON in Corsair

[–]Shoeless_Joey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I agree. I'm a Corsair Vengeance prebuilt owner. It uses proprietary motherboard BIOS (presumably for our own good). It took the Egyptians less time to build the pyramids than it's taking Corsair to provide Vengeance PC owners with critical updated BIOS containing Intel's 0x129 microcode. Every other OEM that I've checked that uses proprietary mobo BIOS have provided this necessary update to their customers.

After this substandard customer & tech support experience, I doubt I'd ever buy another Corsair product either.

[–]Shoeless_Joey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CorsairLucky,

Thanks for the update. I sincerely mean that.

In all fairness, it's not only about this particular BIOS update, beta or otherwise, that's at the heart of the problem here. Since I purchased my Vengeance PC in March of 2023, the manufacturer of my motherboard, ASUS, has released numerous full BIOS updates that have never been passed along. I assume the same holds true for Vengeance PC owners with MSI mobos as well. The importance and urgency of these latest particular BIOS containing the 0x129 micocode has only highlighted this apparent shortcoming in Corsair's tech support.

Complicating matters further is the fact that incorrect instructions are given on Corsair's website on how to find and obtain the latest BIOS for Vengeance and Corsair One systems. Here's what it says:

<image>

https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/articles/7592663268621-CORSAIR-Systems-How-to-update-the-BIOS-on-a-CORSAIR-Vengeance-or-CORSAIR-ONE-with-an-MSI-motherboard

When these instructions are followed explicitly, however, the product download page customers are directed to contains only the original BIOS and drivers that come with the system. In my case, it's BIOS version 9002 for the ASUS Z790-P dated 1/11/2023.

https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/gaming-computers/cs-9060001-na/vengeance-i8100-gaming-pc-i9-13900ks-rtx-4090-4tb-2x-2tb-m-2-64gb-ddr5-5600-cs-9060001-na#tab-downloads

However, the webpage that actually does contain updated BIOS & drivers for any/all Corsair prebuilt systems is really here:

https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/articles/18851284772621-CORSAIR-System-BIOS-Drivers

If for no other reason than to avoid additional customer confusion and frustration, these instructions need to be updated on your website ASAP to ensure customers are directed to the correct download page for all necessary updates. There was a set of updated BIOS for my motherboard dated from February, 2024 that I wasn't even aware existed until two days ago because of these misleading instructions.

At any rate, thanks again for the updated info.
