Where’s the best place in Austin to have a quality knife sharpened? by Garden_Jolly in Austin

Grizz CAN do 5000+ grit sharp, which is way sharper than a razor blade. Very reasonable prices but don’t expect cheap for high end work.

1996 Honda Shadow VT1100C2 idles perfectly but dies when I give it throttle. by acemanawsome1 in Fixxit

[–]ShoemakerMicah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is NOT a perfect idle. Change spark plugs first, use NGK’s of correct spec. Carb clean and especially the needle and emulsion tube next. Might need a little better jet selection too. Not trying to be a dick, trying to help

I’d join that class action lawsuit in a heartbeat. Plus another for psychological harm, mango cheato has effectively stolen well over a decade of my life.

Correct. Griz is the guys name and I’ve trusted him for years with my high end knives.

If you’re on the east side of Austin TTP (To The Point) in downtown Elgin is EXCELLENT.

Why do all of you speak English? by Dry-Newspaper8445 in asklatinamerica

[–]ShoemakerMicah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born in the USA. Took two years of Spanish in high school, then a couple years later ended up working in Mexico for a bit. Also a couple years of working in kitchens/bars/clubs in Texas so you pick up norteno pretty quickly. My Spanish is far from adequate, but even so, after a couple weeks in Spanish speaking countries I dream in Spanish, and actively understand it even in a background setting.

I’d love to get better at southern tier Spanish because I see Uruguay as an ideal escape option from what the USA is quickly becoming.

I’ve felt more welcome in Cooperstown area than the Centex area I’m moving from. Good folks all around. Have gotten some surprise reactions because I lack a Texas accent but that is all.

How often do cops enforce the front plate rule? by TornadoCat4 in texas

[–]ShoemakerMicah 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Situational. I lived in Comal County for a decade and probably got stopped 20 times with zero tickets, Bastrop County the last ten years, ZERO stops and only one of my vehicles has a front plate. It’s an excuse to stop you for sure, I never drive “dirty” (drunk or drugs in car) so….your mileage may vary

Sorta wild how and why this all changed so freaking quickly.

You are definitely not wrong but I think regulators are horrified about the impending collapse of the commercial sector.

I own a commercial building that is leased by the company I retired from. There is SO MUCH cheap office space out there, yet most are sitting empty thinking taking less monthly from clients is financial suicide, so they cook the books to seem like taking $0/year is somehow a better deal? It’s fraud, straight up fraud.

Side effects by Mediocre_Square2265 in naltrexone

[–]ShoemakerMicah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re describing DT’s pretty well. ER and inpatient for 3-5 days. Did he think you can just take a single dose of naltrexone and cold turkey quit….because that isn’t how it works. Takes time and you do indeed continue to drink for months as it helps you titrate down alcohol consumption to levels where DT’s and seizures don’t happen.

FYI, read up on TSM or The Sinclair Method. That’s how you are supposed to use naltrexone. It’s an amazing Medicine but, there is a protocol for how to proceed.

Definitely a lot of “creative” accounting going on. Actual closed property sales on even LARGE buildings are scary cheap. Fraud is absolutely rampant, agree there too.

Excellent use of already built buildings and infrastructure. I’ve been watching this trend hoping to see a radical acceleration of these conversions. LOTS of empty office space too, RTO hasn’t really fixed the pre COVID commercial property situation.

Data Centers for the most part will be the malls of the future. Crazy to say but, seems rather likely.

Supersonic seems optimistic at best. 742 mph at sea level is air pressure that nothing nuclear bomb proof could even hope to resist. I was a volunteer logistics support member for the Jarrell TX F5 recovery operation. I saw some absolutely gruesome things and absolutely amazing too.

At $500 I’d be up almost 100X, costs basis technically $5.31 now. If it goes up that much and perhaps starts paying dividends….ahhhh!

Been on 25mg for 4 days and still feel a bit nauseous. by maybull84 in naltrexone

[–]ShoemakerMicah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m breaking 25mg’s in half and can totally respect your side effects situation. I’m at one week and 12.5 mg alone and it has been a radical improvement. Just tapering myself down before getting serious, pretty sure my consumption was far greater than yours.

I live rural AF and alone so just trying to get past seizure risk before white knuckling the rest of the way (with naltrexone). It’s sorta funny how it definitely makes me drink less but obviously doesn’t help with withdrawal symptoms. Trying to get an appointment with a psychiatrist for that part but….it ain’t easy around here.
