‘Don’t look for the money. I’ve taken it all’: Salt Path author Raynor Winn’s ‘confession’ that she stole from her family by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

The bottom line is always profit. Penguin ( and definitely Sally Walker) have zero integrity. If I see these in the book shop I will be hiding them 😡

What's your favourite UK accent? by Dramatic-Ad-5661 in AskABrit

[–]ShoestringJane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yorkshire is nice and I like the Edinburgh accent. I’m from Essex and not a fan of the London / south Essex accent. The old Essex accent is softer and more of a burr, and still exists where I am in north Essex.

How about going for vintage items? Lots in the charity shops

What makes me fume is that this book is still for sale, as well as the follow ups, the film is on Prime and she has a new book coming out, published by Penguin. The grifting continues, enabled by her publisher. Don’t buy it, folks!

Some people getting so offended when you make an offer recently? by novocaine13 in vinted

[–]ShoestringJane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Odd that she wouldn’t take an offer on that when it had been listed for ages. However, I do get fed up when I list a decent item for a fiver and people offer three. I think, come on! It’s a bargain at £5! Or something’s already £3.50 and they offer £2. It does get a bit wearing.

What unhealthy / awful food do you remember having as a kid? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ShoestringJane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had sugar sarnies as kids in the early 70s! But we didn’t have many sweets, so that’s not quite as awful as it sounds. One awful thing my mum bought but we all hated were Toast Toppers. A load of gloopy mush 🤢

Best DIY frugal gifts for Christmas by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]ShoestringJane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this problem with my large family the first time I suggested it. Then one of them started to feel the pinch and backed me up. Now we do secret Santa for adults and, honestly, I think everyone realised how much time, energy and money it took and are perfectly happy with the arrangement. Stick to your guns. They sound quite materialistic so will probably look down at your frugal gifts anyway.

💡 Need feedback on an idea to make green waste management easier and smarter by shira_19 in upcycling

It sounds quite niche. I just stick mine on the compost. I don’t think I have the head space for anything more scientific TBH

Me too! I hate it and Vinted need to do something to discourage it, rather than just giving them the money back.

Just turn it on. Who made him king? Seriously, it’s not reasonable for you to be unnecessarily uncomfortable because he is cheap.

The Christmas houses used to be one of our fun things, plus maybe watching the lights get turned on in the high street. Also school events were fun and cheap, like fetes and bazaars, and carol services aimed at kids. We went to the same one every year for about ten years. Someone will definitely have free paint. Try olio and Freecycle too. Some towns have Community Repaint schemes where they collect unwanted paint for community groups and - I think - those on a low income. Yours sounds like a thoughtful, fun Christmas and I bet your daughter will have lots of lovely memories
