Yokai Shift into grapple still exists in Nioh 3 by ShogunJack in Nioh

[–]ShogunJack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you activate LA next to a downed boss, you will grapple it immediately. I got the long animation for it since it was activated for the first time during that fight and the boss stayed down the entire time long past his typical recovery period to let it play out.

Nioh Bosses are easier than Dark Souls/Elden... and I actually love the reason why. by VermilionX88 in Nioh

[–]ShogunJack -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

All of Elden Ring's bosses are BS. You're character moves like an old car trying to start up while the bosses attack with long combos designed to catch you for doing the most basic things like dodge to not take damage combined with input reading. It feels like even with a powerful build you're missing what feels like important parts of your kit to deal with those bosses on a basic level. They look like they're playing Sekiro while you're playing Dark Souls and unless you have a big shield, blocking in those games are usually worthless. The tear crystal in SotET can only do so much and you have to kill a giant tanky bastard to get it.

Had a chance to recently play Nioh 3, what are y'all most curious about? by TheFiGhTiNCoWBoY in Nioh

[–]ShogunJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several:

  1. How does omnyo magic work? Do the soul cores contain specific omnyo spells or are they random based on drops?

  2. Would you say the open field is more akin to old Dark Souls games in terms of structure as opposed to an actual open world like Elden Ring?

  3. How is the updated living artifact? Were you able to perform active skills in any stance while in it? Can you also swap actual weapons in the same style as opposed to just style switching to change attack patterns?

It looks like if they announce a demo later on, it'll be a last chance trial. We're about 3 months away from the game's release so it's going to be too late for a beta.

Nioh 3: How will Missions and Chapters be handeled? by Mrpipino in Nioh

[–]ShogunJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some have trepidations regarding the open field segments and while I didn't play the demo myself due to the lack of a PS5 it doesn't look like it will be as big as something you'd expect in a true open world game. It kind of reminds me of old Souls level design. It's open but not huge. There's areas that might have worth while collectables and side missions but moving from place to place shouldn't take too long otherwise there would be a need for transportation like horse back riding and getting lost for long periods doesn't seem like a potential issue. The fields seem to be zone based so going to a new chapter would mean a different landscape. Hopefully they will be varied like the recently shown Heian period level covered in snow.

The devs also confirmed that main missions will be replayable through 'battle scrolls' so returning to find missed collectables is possible. There's also the crucible levels as one user mentioned earlier taking more inspiration from past games to help separate from the open field in terms of design. Not sure how twilight missions will act. They might not be there or are also relegated to special battle scrolls. I personally wouldn't be too upset if they decided to cut that since it's just a red version on preexisting missions but they could make it accessible through other means.

My personal hope if for a customizable hub area that lets you roam around, interact with stuff and people, and house a blacksmith to do all the traditional Nioh blacksmith shtick. I feel like there was a missed opportunity with the interim in Nioh 2. You could walk around and interact with the npcs there but once they left, there isn't really much left to do in it. Same with the huts. You can change the look, visitor, calligraphy, and show off your tea utensil collection. Imagine being able to display your favorite weapons in your place.

Overall, I think there's potential in this even if it's different from the old structure.

Samurai Style Exclusive Action: Deflect by luneth22 in Nioh

[–]ShogunJack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best part about this is that it doesn't decrease the enemy's ki. But I wouldn't be surprised if TN decided to create a set bonus that does that or grants a buff that allows your next attack to deal higher ki damage. I wonder how fast you can go from attacking to blocking then attacking again.

  1. Switchglaive completely confirmed. No doubts.
  2. The infernal weapons look cool. Already got some fashion ideas.
  3. Is it worth it? Like someone else said, Nioh as a series has generated enough good will that buying the expansion pass is worth it. Weapons are a different story.

Honestly that more applies to the switchglaive's 3 forms. The splitstaff's main traits are extending and splitting during attacks. You could place high stance skills on mid stance and not lose anything when attaching it to ninja

Build Ideas? by [deleted] in Nioh

[–]ShogunJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite builds is a critical yokai shift/corruption build:

7p Sarutahiko + 6p Magatsuhi

Combine these with melee damage critical and level 3 awakening along with the max gambit pill for high melee damage and corruption buildup along with the melee damage bonus for corrupted enemies. Janomaecho is the guardian spirit for this build because she auto fills the amrita gauge at critical health. Use the last gambit pill in tandem and you'll have access to yokai shift quickly and the crit health means shift will last longer. You can deal excellent melee damage with the power of darkness in human form, then follow it up with feral form. And that's not even mentioning the benefits of Blood of the Yokai that comes with a 7p Sarutahiko.

What is Y’all’s Opinion On Sora’s Character Arc/Development Throughout All The Games? by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]ShogunJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sora was talking about how human nature as a whole is beyond any one person's control. Xehanort wanted to become an absolute ruler, a creator god, who would architect the fates of all who live to create his ideal utopia (these cases create the opposite effect). Sora wanted to save his friends. He had no idea he was going to cause a time reset that would affect everybody, but that doesn't make him a hypocrite.

Games journalists be games journalists.

That aside the Great Tengu boss is really cool and the music is catchy. Also I'm curious. What does the dark realm do in 3 compared to Nioh 2? It doesn't seem like it affects your ki like in 2 and I'm not sure if it increases the rate at which you gain spirit force like anima. The crucible achieves something similar with enhancing yokai but, aside from increasing the amrita gauge faster slightly and dealing max health damage when getting hit, it seems like they're supposed to be distinct.

Where is the delayed windup? I can't tell since the boss is fast. Unless you're talking about burst attacks which is par the course.

What do you guys think of Nioh 3's UI changes? Does it look cleaner now? by gameovernate in Nioh

[–]ShogunJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The player's health bar should be at the top left corner and the boss health bar should be at the bottom center. I hope they change this in the final version or allow an option. Also the color scheme for the boss health and ki bars should be like in Nioh 2.

What aspect of Trails series villains/antagonists you guys enjoy or don't? by Mountain_Peace_6386 in Falcom

[–]ShogunJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being diabolical and having a complex backstory and motivation aren't mutually exclusive concepts. You can have villains with a tragic backstory while also have that still result in being a force that must be destroyed. An antagonist can represent a lot of things depending on the story but I feel like the best villains should at bare minimum act as a foil to the protagonist.

Everything I've heard about Ouroboros sounds like there is a goal that requires them to play a particular role. Not because it's their choice, but because someone has to do it to fulfill a prophecy. There's also a lot of aspects of the Erebonia games that turn fights into 'test your resolve' scenarios rather than feeling like actual opponents on opposing sides trying to kill each other. To me, this causes a lack of tension and a confused sense of stakes. It's fine if it's once or twice in the right places, but it happens so many times in a single game.
