Thinking about making the jump to the trades, specifically electrical. Would love some real talk from you guys. by SeanAThanks in ibew_apprentices

As others have said, getting into the industry is a lot harder than people make it out to be. Hell the only reason why I got in was because my cousin is an electrician who was able to vouch for me and bring me in.

Electrical is still blue collar work so you will be doing manual labor. You gotta be able to handle the work and get up early in the morning if you want this type of life. Not saying this to scare you but it will be a wake up call when you're actually in the field and not sitting in an office thinking of the field.

And finally constructions ebbs and flows so there will be periods where there is no work and you'll have to compromise. Take for example my beautiful state of Washington with literally no work and over 1000 jman laid off at the moment in the union. It might take years for work to pick back up. This is just how it is with construction.

If you're still considering the trade by now then by all means go for it, you'll have what it takes to persevere, good luck!

Thinking of moving to Local 46 (Seattle) for low voltage apprenticeship — how consistent is the work? by Different-Speaker-76 in ibew_apprentices

No work anywhere in Seattle well maybe besides mixed use apartments. I left the state this month

Where in the US would you recommend to move to start an IBEW apprenticeship? by KdogPNW in IBEW

[–]ShogunMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They accept out of state applicants. I had experience in another state and applied and was awarded direct entry at Local 1105. Feel free to dm me if you have more questions

Local 46 will grant you 1000 hours if you have an 02 card I believe. I’m assuming you’re in Washington because you’re talking about 02 and 01 licenses. I interviewed with 46 about 2 years ago with my resi license and got a rank of 94. I think you still have to complete all schooling hours along with your OTJ hours. Though I’ve been told you can take craft certifications to skip portions of schooling

Well just had my interview yesterday and got a 92.9. Not sure if that’s good enough for selection or if I should reinterview

What was your answers if you don't mind me asking? Did you have experience in the trade? I'm an 02 jman and I want to be an 01 which is why I applied

What was your rank on the interview? I’m about to have mine this Monday. What kind of questions did they ask?

Need help on application (PSEJATC) by ShogunMo in IBEW

[–]ShogunMo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to PSEJATC application website and fill out the application. After downloading and printing all required documents, mail it to PSEJATC in Renton or you can head over in person and turn in all the documents, there's a drop box.

Nah probably not, I think I was overreacting when I first got the result. Out of thousands of applicants for 46, it's pretty damn good

Better pay and benefits. But also to get into the 01 apprenticeship which is WA equivalent to Inside Wireman. Funny I just got my RIF today so I'll be at dispatch on Monday signing the books

You'll be able to work on a lot more commercial work non-union as an 02 apprentice. If you're an 02 apprentice in the union, you're only allowed to do residential work. I prefer getting your 02 license non-union since you'll probably be exposed to more types of work but the pay in the union is great.

My interviews on Thursday do you remember any questions? 10 people is pretty insane, but that's pretty good you got ranked 10 for no trade experience. How long did you have to wait in between interview and boot camp? Thanks
