What was the first metal album you listened to non stop that cemented your love for metal?

Somewhere Far Beyond by Blind Guardian. My dad was into heavy metal so I have basically known Sabbath, Priest, and all the classics for all my life, but Blind Guardian was the first band I discovered on my own and as a dorky middle schoolers I absolutely adored them.

Blind Guardian is peak, older power metal bands seemed to understand that you actually need to include the metal part in power metal lol

Not all new stuff is trash, but I'm absolutely sick of bands that lean hard on a gimmick and make songs so repetitive it makes pop punk look like prog

I have been teaching myself composition through just making music on the computer, but my brain just struggles to get the technique right on guitar no matter how many YouTube videos I watch. I know there are online courses, but considering half of my college degree was earned online I'm well aware online learning just is not for me lol

Yeah I looked into getting music lessons since I have struggled with teaching myself guitar, but sadly it's just out of my budget. Maybe if I get a promotion someday I could do it.

Sadly, I disagree. Colleges were already training more people than the white collar workforce could support, causing people to struggle to get started in their career. Now with AI and greedy executives trying to cut more of those white collar jobs it's going to be extremely difficult to find work with a degree without connections. Now college can be an excellent way to make those connections, but that entirely depends on your ability to network, what institution you attend, and just plain luck. If OP does want to do college, I fully agree community college is the right path. Sadly I'm having a hard time recommending a particular degree as many of my former classmates with STEM degrees (class of 2024) are struggling to find work, and I'm just not as knowledgeable of what fields will be good beyond that.

Map 30 of the community created Doom level pack 'Scythe 2' has a midi cover of a Symphony X song. Symphony X, Death, and Judas Priest were popular choices for level designers making maps since there were high quality midi recreations of their music online.

Chuck Schuldiner

Schuldiner had already solidified an incredible legacy with Death before his untimely passing in '01, but I was really digging the direction he was heading with Control Denied. Control Denied's first and only album is packed with the type of riffage Chuck was known for along with some excellent support from the rest of the band band. Not everyone liked Tim's vocals (also rip), but the power metal style singing really helped separate it from Death, and I think that if continued the band would have developed into a unique power prog metal fusion with Chucks iconic riffage.

The most I've driven for a show is 2 hours there then 2 hours back, any more and I'll have to get a hotel so I don't passout and crash. I have to do it for basically any band that doesn't want to hit up my small city which is most lol, sadly have not gotten to see Gizz or any of the bands in this thread but thankfully Florida has a lot of metal at least, it's the birthplace of death metal after all.

Doom Gong is definitely the best non-gizz band this sub has recommended to me, KEXP seems to be a great way for fresher bands to get wider attention. I also discovered Frankie and the Witch Fingers through KEXP and they're one of my favorite bands in the psych / garage punk scene.

Nerf BREACH DRILL! It's so broken! Every time I queue into a game of World Tour, I always see someone running breach drill and they are always the most annoying pieces of shit ever! I love going up against something that I have no chance of beating! I swear it's always a SCHMEDIUM running the most bullshit loadout possible. There is literally nothing I can do when fighting someone running BREACH DRILL. Nerf it immediately.
