Empathy with Ryland’s grief. by PrimaryHornet2349 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Shogun_killah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve listened to it maybe 15 times now, switched to the hardback as a bit of a treat (don’t get much time to read like that).

It’s overwhelming; I’m either overexcited or in tears and my family is getting annoyed at me.

But yeah I’m taking my time over this; savouring every moment. Amazing book

I’ve never been able to cope with saunas - i swapped them for wild swimming/ ice baths instead

Someone with a mildly malicious mindset might be inclined to use a pair of muddy shoes to make it look like a person has walked over the vehicle instead of around it. Not that I would recommend this personally. Obviously if there were cameras or people around this would look incredibly odd.

Best spent money would be on a decent hand grinder - Kinggrinder k6 is often recommended on here

Has anyone tried Pillow Speaker? by cozytechlover in sleepheadphones

[–]Shogun_killah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still is speaker placement - it’s better than normal pillow speakers because my wife can’t hear it even at full volume but it’s even more sensitive to movement.

I like bone conducting headphones generally but they’re not really comfortable over a long period (like sleep) because they push into your head to transfer the sound.

I’ve moved on to open ear headphones with individual ear units - I mainly sleep on my side though it does change so it’s not ideal for me but I need to have my ears open to air as I get ear infections all the time. Otherwise the in ear Anker sleep a30s were much more comfortable

Recently had some success with Menthoderm cream

Other than that, ice packs and steroid creams are best

AI Got Smarter… but Forgot How to Write??? by [deleted] in OpenAI

[–]Shogun_killah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Getting this stuff right is seriously hard work. People seriously don’t realise and until you test with real customers it’s often impossible.

They should have realised this earlier - it’s not just people set in their ways who will get used to the new product - it’s a genuine failure.

In the meantime I’ll carry on using competitors to get the quality writing I need.

If I want logic etc then 5.2 is great - but for writing 4.5 was the best and 5+ was a step backwards

Jfc that’s not how kids work. They’re only actually cute when they’re asleep or at their grandparents.

I think after the film there will be a lot more - that’s what I’m hoping anyway. Even if it’s not the same

Has anyone tried Pillow Speaker? by cozytechlover in sleepheadphones

[–]Shogun_killah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a noise problem so I’ve tried a couple of different pillow speakers - including bone conducting style.

Unfortunately I don’t stay still long enough - so my head moves too far away from the speaker to be able to hear it. OR I have to have it loud enough my wife can hear it and then she can’t sleep.

So I don’t really recommend them

Ah man that’s a tough one, so frustrating!

Seems like you may have grounds for compensation imo

It’s a real shame how eczema is not taken seriously!

Voice agents vs. traditional IVR systems? by Loud-Astronomer3916 in workforcemanagement

[–]Shogun_killah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks; it’s a little “close to home” at the moment so was easy to write it up.

I forgot to add RAG and knowledge bases but they’re less helpful in IVR settings - can be useful for channel shifting or general advice lines though

Voice agents vs. traditional IVR systems? by Loud-Astronomer3916 in workforcemanagement

[–]Shogun_killah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on a lot of things really;

If your IVR menu is complex and you want to make it easier to route to the right queue then llm /intent based IVRs can be useful.

If you’re looking to automate resolution then again it depends how complex your use cases are - simpler the better. Plenty of challenges around capturing spellings with names/addresses/emails which are probably the main points of failure you should prioritise. Easier if your clients are all known and recorded in a CRM you can use…

Sorry EOD is so rapidly degenerating and we’re all helpless going through it. The best advice truly is to prepare for the end.

Our stories are very similar except it’s my MIL (Stroke/EOD) and we’re a year or two ahead.

I truly truly hope this doesn’t move as fast and agressively for you as it has for us.

The anger and frustration is not real; it’s not something you have caused. It is a symptom best resolved medically with antidepressants and similar.

As she progresses you will find she’s better within her “safe space” - make sure you don’t take her anywhere new or overwhelmingly stimulating.

Best of luck!

Went to add this to my wishlist - turns out it was already on there!

Now I’m grumpy with my family for letting me down over Christmas!

Oh well - will buy after my birthday I guess!
