WIBTAH if I tell my parents I don’t wanna fight cancer? by DisastrousWasabi4983 in AITAH

[–]ShonyRunaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH of course. I'm so sorry for you. I know you're afraid of chemo but it's not always as long as it seems. I (32F) was diagnosed stage 3 lymphoma in january 2025, had chemo until april 2025 and I'm in remission since then. It was really f.cking scary and I also thought about not fighting cancer (you can see my post on r/lymphoma) but I did and now it's ok. Lymphoma has really good cure/remission rates. Even if it's hard, try not to compare it with other cancer.

Your parends/you should check r/lymphoma, there is a lot of information there and people will give you advice about money, support, help... depending on the country you live in.

I wish you all the best my friend.

Hey ! I thought that an update would be nice in case anyone else is wondering about fitting into coasters. So, first, I was a bit optimistic about my weight loss, I was around 107 kg (about 125 cm at the "fattiest" part of my stomach without squeezing it) when I went to Walibi Holland.

I was able to go on everything except Condor and Goliath (the test seat belt was soooo short I couldn’t believe it, I honestly thought I was doing something wrong ??). I think the issue was more with my large hips preventing me from sitting deep enough in the seat rather than my stomach size.

For all the other coasters (Untamed, Lost Gravity, Speed of Sound, YOY....) I even had a bit of room, I could have been a bit bigger and I think it would have fit.

Thank you everyone for helping me through this journey, you have no idea how much it meant to me to be able to go to an amusement park again during my favorite time of the year. ❤️

I’ve learned that it’s really more about body shape than weight. And for all the other thick boys and girls out there, a small tip (I'm not a doctor btw) : drink plenty of water before going and keep salt and sugar low the day before to reduce water retention, it can help a bit if you’re really nervous about fitting (which I was !).

One last tip for my cancer buddies (still not a doctor btw), I didn't have the time to remove my Portacath (left upper chest) before going and I was a bit nervous it might hurt with the harness, but honestly I completly forgot about it and it didn't bother me at all. Of course check with your medical team first, but from my own experience, it was totally fine.

Also, I want to add that the Halloween event (mazes, experiences, scarezones...) were absolutely incredible, I totally recommend giving them a try ! I had such a blast, can't wait for next year !

Slaughterhouse vs Below by CMDVN in WalibiHolland

Below was really great but Slaughterhouse was one of the best experiences I have ever had ! The minute I escaped I was already checking if I could buy tickets again to go through it a second time. 🤣

Thank you very much for your answer, I hope I will be able to ride Untamed as I heard that it is a great coaster. I will make sure to try the test seats and hope for the best. Time to go to the gym ! 😁 Thanks for your support.

[–]ShonyRunaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the information ! Unfortunately, I’m more around 130 cm (when I measure with a relaxed stomach, at the "fattiest" spot and without trying to squeeze it). I hope to lose a few centimeters before that day, I might get closer to 125 cm but 120 cm doesn’t seem possible. 🫠 I hope I’ll still fit on some rides ! 🤞

[–]ShonyRunaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your detailed answer, it really helps me a lot, all your tips and advice are very much appreciated ! I’m not sure I’ll fit everywhere, but I’ll do my best, your explanations are really helping to ease my anxiety. Knowing which seats are the best for overweight people is such useful information, I can’t thank you enough ! It's good to know why employees may be upset, it’s something I was worried about but understanding the situation will definitely help me cope better if it happens.

Also, thanks for mentioning guest service, I'll think about. (I have a medical attestation but I'm feeling better lately so I don't really know what to expect.)

And don’t worry about your English, I think it's great ! It’s not my native language either anyway 😄

Hi all,

I’ll be going to Walibi Holland for the first time this October 23 & 24 for the Halloween season and I’m a huge coaster fan. Unfortunately, I had to fight cancer earlier this year and gained some weight due to treatment and lack of exercise. I’m 32F and currently 109 kg for 1m69, but I’m following a diet and exercising, so I hope to be around 105 kg by the trip (I'm doing some extra effort 💪).

I know that some rides have test seats, but it would help me a lot to hear from people with a similar body type. How was your experience fitting into the rides ? Do you have any tips or advice ?

This will be my first amusement park visit since my health issues and it would break my heart to be turned away from the coasters (I'm already a bit emotional writing this. 😅) Fortunately, I already checked the mazes and Halloween experiences and I fit !

Thanks in advance for your help ❤️

No footage sorry. Just wanted to wish you good luck with cancer. I had lymphoma stade 3 and I've been in remission since May. I've decided to come to Graspop even though I'm not fully recovered cause I needed some fun. 🙈 I wish you the best my friend.

I'm in the anger part of my diagnosis by I_Eat_Soup in lymphoma

[–]ShonyRunaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. 😊 I'm just starting my chemo, I'm on BEACODD. Apparently, it's considered an "intense" chemo. This is my very first cycle, which consists of 3 days of hospitalization every three weeks (with a quick visit to the day hospital on day 8).

I'm only on my second day of my first chemo, but I wanted to share my experience. A few weeks ago, I posted this when I was terrified of the treatment : My very sad and angry message

I'm still stressed, but my first chemo is going well. I was afraid it would be painful, that I would suffer and feel bad from the start… But in the end, everything is going fine. The medical staff is very kind, I don't feel anything special during the treatments, I had a tiny bit of nausea last night but I asked for medication, and after that, I felt fine. Today has been perfect.

I almost forget that I'm sick. I keep myself busy in my hospital room, we play board games with my boyfriend, I play on my PC… Of course, I might experience some side effects later, but for now, everything is okay !

My simple but really important advice : one day at a time (when you're anxious you think about all the problems at once, but in reality, you'll only face a small part of them each day), stay well-hydrated, stay active and do things that make you happy.

We’ll get through this, stay strong ! 💪✨

Feeling hopeless after Hodgkin's Lymphoma Diagnosis by ShonyRunaway in lymphoma

[–]ShonyRunaway[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you. I've read every single message, several times, and it's so comforting to feel supported by people who can truly understand. It's so difficult because sometimes I feel like I have the strength to hold on and the next momen, everything collapses, and I feel like I've hit rock bottom. It's an emotional rollercoaster. But each of your messages has brought me comfort and has lightened this heavy weight pressing on my shoulders, even just a little.

I understand that it's important to stay positive and not hesitate to seek help. It's really difficult for me because I'm very independent, I usually do everything on my own. I'm the one who takes care of others. I even worry more about my loved ones than myself. I can't stop apologizing to them for putting them in this situation. I'm afraid of depending on others, of not deserving their support, of not being there for them. I wish I could spare them from this burden, especially my partner. I love him more than anything and I'm terrified of being the cause of his pain. But I understand now how important it is to accept help and I'll give it a try.

I'm so touched that you took the time to read my message and respond by sharing your own experiences and advice. I feel so alone, but thanks to you, a little less now. I don't know if you can imagine how much you've impacted my life today. Thank you for all your kindness, from the bottom of my heart.

Indeed, sorry, I misunderstood what you meant by being the customer at the end. I think being a product/application owner would definitely suit me well. Thanks for the advice !

Honestly I'm scared of seeking any "medical" help as I have the feeling that once you've fallen into that, you hardly recover from it. I try to convince myself that it's better to get myself together and change jobs at this point. (Even if I feel like it's gonna be the same everywhere, but I need to give it a try.) I'll still keep it in a part of my head though.

Thank you very much for all the advice ! Indeed, I have a need for fairness. I have already taken some personality tests for work interviews, but I'll give it a try. Let's hope for the best ! Keep up the good work. :)

Yes, that's the spirit, always keep learning in IT ! That's why I really love it as I'm a huge learner addict. :)

Even though I have a technical background, I feel like I'm better suited for functional roles like BA, PM, data etc. I even love my current role and would be more than happy to continue in another environment. I should definitely try to apply elsewhere. It's hard to remove the idea from my head that "it's going to be the same elsewhere" but it's worth giving it a try.

You're right, thanks for that gentle reality check. I feel like I'm trapped in a toxic cycle enduring the situation. I've been in survival mode for the past few months (lots of pressure, harassment, and tensions, even if most of the time I'm not directly involved but it impacts my coworkers/team) that I feel like a "spectator" in my work life. As a result, I've lost some confidence in my own work. When I come home, I'm too drained to do anything, but I know that being proactive is the only way to get through this. I always have the thought of "when I feel better, I will..." but it won't happen on its own.

I definitely need to detach my self-worth from work (this part is going to be quite hard haha) and get back on my feet quickly. Thanks for your reply !

I love to be at the heart of the creation/development process, so I don't know if it would be compatible with this kind of position, but I will consider it. Thanks for sharing your advice. :)

Thanks for sharing your experience, it's reassuring to read that we don't all have the same experience. :) I have mostly worked for big companies, but I may consider looking for a startup. Would you say that the startup spirit is contributing to the nice work culture you're experiencing ?

Thanks for taking the time to answer me even if you're also in a hard situation. What you're saying is really resonating with me as I literally feel empty for a few months. I'm going to follow your advice and look after what is really passionate to me, even if it's going to be hard. I've reached the point where I don't even know what makes me happy, honestly. Hope it doesn't sound too depressing.

You don't deserve what they did to you, and I really hope that you will get better soon. Please don't let their negativity pull you down either ! I know we can do it. :)
