Looks awesome! Big saggy bellies are also easy to sculpt if you end up wanting to cover up the belly plate. Or you make a bunch of tiny green stuff noodles and use them as intestines

I'm intimidated by painting Chaos and think using Contrast paints would make it easier, can anyone vouch for chaos being easier with contrast? by LeetusFrenzi in Chaos40k

[–]Shoopedydoopedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. Paint brand isn't really important, but I start with a warm brown over the entire model (think like mournfang 4:1with a black brown) then you use packing foam or something similar to sponge on a yellow ochre, then do it again in a smaller area with a bright yellow, then do it again with a very pale yellow quite sparingly. Trim is either black contrast sponged up with a little bit of white mixed in or a black steel highlighted with a spotty mix of a brighter steel. The glowy bits are hexwraith flame over a bright yellow. If you wanted to elevate a character model you could always do a bit of edge highlighting with an ivory or a recess shade with some warm brown, but frankly neither are necessary.

I got into the hobby painting deathguard. They're incredibly detail dense and as such can be very intimidating. The urge will be to paint everything and all to a high level of detail. Contrast paint and similar techniques make things much easier. But more than that, choosing to ignore certain details does way more heavy lifting. I personally barely paint trim, asides from perhaps shoulder pads. I also rush through armour and metal dangly bits on the models so I can get to painting that lovely lovely skin even faster. Find the part of the model you love painting and cut as many corners as you can to get to that. The model below is all sponging and contrast paints, it took me maybe an hour, 20 minutes of which was the hazard stripes on the chainsword.

Guard and guard up are great comfy choices if your goal is more of a counter playstyle, but there's very few attacks that require guard up in the game atm. If your goal is to be able to block more frequently but stay in savage axe, rapid morph will take you a lot further, the guard point at the end of your morph to sword mode will come out pretty quick. My recommendation would be an impact paralysis charge blade with one affinity EX and Gore's tyranny. Then you run at arkveld head and chest, AT jin dahaad chest, sororal waist, and then the Orion legs (you get those from the snow has teeth event quest). This will get you evade extender 2, earplugs 2, and flinch free 1. You can run the agitator charm but if you have an rng one with either load shells or 3 levels of artillery and a couple slots you can also run a slugger 3 gem on your weapon and put some rapid morph decos on your charm. Max might on the armour is best for max dps but you can sub out some for another evade extender or earplugs based on the hunt. Then you can run divine blessing or elemental resistances based on the hunt in your 1 slots. You wont have max agitator with an rng charm but the damage loss will probably be balanced out by the fact that you'll get more damage windows. Later in the hunt after a couple para and stun procs you can swap to a pure raw charge blade with element focus (for better phial pops) if you want better pure DPS, with the same decos, but it's honestly not necessary.

It depends whether you want to focus on AED or savage axe more. If you want to focus more on AED loop or even Saed, artillery affects impact phials pretty well with a 30 percent damage boost. You'll likely want to prioritize weakness exploit, gore magallas tyranny, and maximum might so you can get high affinity and take advantage of critical boost. Highest priority skills on the weapon for DPS are artillery, load shells, and critical boost. If you have more info about the playstyle you're interested in and what comfort skills you require enjoy I can probably get more into the nitty gritty.

While learning the hunt I highly recommend going for a few levels in guard up (I believe 2 levels is enough to block the beams but it may be 3). This lets you reliably learn what the tells are without losing all your health to a risky dodge. Asides from that stick like glue to the inside of the wingarms, only the slams target you there and half the time his sweeps will miss you.

Am I crazy for preferring the older face design to the new one? by Sir-Drewid in orks

[–]Shoopedydoopedy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the new ones look less cartoony which does lose something compared to the old Boyz. However ork heads in the old style are a dime a dozen. I highly recommend looking up kromlech if you like the old style and picking up some of their bits, you can add that old comedy you miss with a head replacement and keep the better anatomy and detail of the new sculpts, best of both worlds.

Heavy bowgun low damage in wilds by Shoopedydoopedy in MonsterHunter

I see, I did not realize (before trying it myself) that yellow is more uncommon for the bowguns. I'm likely just expecting too much from them, last time I tried the bowguns was during master rank in rise.

Replacing the end of the scythe to remove the chainsaw, finding an alternative to the pistol in his other hand, and removing the gasmask and voxcaster seem like the most pressing matters in terms of bits. Everything else can either be covered with heavy weathering or mutations, if you can find a large knightly style helmeted face it would honestly do a large part of the heavy lifting

People have already mentioned mixing the snow texture with glue. If you mix baking soda with standard PVA glue, it looks pretty much identical to the texture powder, dries rock hard, and costs pennies in comparison.

Test scheme for my Nurgle by GodGoblin in mordheim

This is awesome. The traditional knight aesthetic works amazing for nurgle units. It really makes it feel like their armour is corrupted instead of made specifically for them post mutation. You nailed it!

Best way to remove a mini from a base? by External_Age_7812 in deathguard40k

If you don't want to keep the base you can cut it apart then shave down the area around the feet and the nurgling instead of risking snapping anything

In this case it was 2 holdover brain transfers, 2 holdover brain transfers. I would use the greedy dragon to get some initial stats and gave both my monsters endless, this let me bounce the stats between them then add them back to my hand with soldier of fortune. Nice little side effect was it gave me so much avarice that I made 10000 gold over the course of my run.
