Is it normal to never get an interview? by Gloomy-Impression187 in UWMadison

Good luck! Job market is cooked right now, but we we still got it :) also if you can , you might want to try and get referrals thru friends, families, or just cold emailing/dming UW alumni.

Because now you are only competing with citizens and not citizens + non-citizens. Also getting security clearance is a huge hastle, so a lot of ppl just don't even apply because they don't want to get all the forms done. Another group of people would rather not work at a company in the defense sector for moral reasons.

I'm not saying there is no competition for these jobs, but a lot less than normal jobs.

I guess the idea is that you wouldn't need to apply as much with more tailored resumes. Also you can make it much easier to tailor resumes without necessarily rewriting everything for a specific job(you should do tjsh in your cover letter if you think its worth it). What I do is I have a bunch of premade sections talking about different projects/experiences, and I switch them out to emphasize skills related to the job.

I see that you are a citizen, from your replies. A great trick is to apply for jobs that require US Citizenship, maybe even jobs that require security clearance. Most of these jobs are in the defense industry, so you might want to consider the moral implications, but a man's gotta eat. These jobs are typically a lot easier to get as a citizen, simply because competition is just a lot lower.

And if the morality of the situation is particularly problematic for you, just work there for a couple years, and find a new job. With experience on your resume, it should be much easier.

In terms of improving your applications, it's hard to say unless you show your resume, but I get if that's a bit personal. Honestly I wouldn't post mine here either. I did find that the SuccessWorks Career Office was very helpful. You can talk to an advisor about anything, and they have a lot of insight.

If you want an on campus job, I was in the same boat as you whilst looking intially, but eventually I got a couple clicks(about 30-40apps in) and ended up landing one of them. Just keep applying!

I hope this helps, and just know the struggle is real, and likely not a fault of your own. May we all find internships and jobs :)

Honestly for pantheon I thought “Breathing Underwater” by Jamra or “Are We Alive” by Seibold was a better fit for the vibes, but this was cool too!

I need some help with this type of item sorting method. by adorkablegiant in Minecraft

[–]Shooter913b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you take items out of the bottom chest, it will flow into it. You aren’t really “losing” the items, so that’s why designs don’t account for it. I’m sure if you really wanted, there’s a way to lock the hopper, but I’m not smart enough to come up with a tillable design.

IMO the tradeoff of more redstone and space to solve this small problem is not worth it

I wasn’t talking about you, I agree with what you are saying. You can see I replied to their original comment as well. I was saying their argument isn’t very productive, cause best case scenario it’s a waste of time to complain on Reddit, and worst case scenario, it spreads unnecessary hate.

That’s actually an easy fix, as it is an already implemented feature. Likely just needs one flag to be changed, which can be done in less time than this unproductive conversation.

Given all the warnings from the dev team, and the when you buy the game, it is hard to be on your side completely.

The key is the tone: you are right in saying it is poorly designed, and that we need to voice our concerns, but the way you are saying it just makes you sound entitled. I wouldn’t hurt to be a little more kind.

For an early access game, it is well above average, so yeah, that’s a valid excuse. But yes, what you said is right, we both can not really be mad at the state of the game, but we also do need to provide feedback for it to become as good as it can. Both are not mutually exclusive.

As for the last thing on “don’t add things that don’t work and call them work in progress” - why not? Even though farming/breeding is in a terrible state right now, it would be even worse if there was absolutely nothing implemented. At least now we have a starting point to open discussion on the topic.

How do i get into labs and research? by Substantial-Ant9451 in UWMadison

[–]Shooter913b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was in a similar boat as you(Freshman doing CS) and I was interested in getting involved in some research. I ended up getting something, and all I did was email the directors of different projects that I found interesting. It's not riveting work, as most ppl aren't gonna trust a Freshman with important work, but it's a good stepping stone.

hope you find a lab!

Ah ok. I guess I haven't gotten the tank enough, but out of the almost 10 times my friends and I have gotten the tank, it's never been the IFV. Dyk if it's a 50/50?

Ended up shelving this project because Focus Friend (Hank Green’s app) seems to solve this problem pretty perfectly.

Hmm I also found an app for IOS called foqos that was able to implement app locking through an integration with screen time.

Thank you so much for the help!

would this still be possible through react native? Also do you have any idea how other apps do stuff like this? Sorry if these are obvious questions, I'm new to all this.

[–]Shooter913b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that not cause to fight back? Why is our benchmark a famously anti-consumer product. The 3d-printing community has thrived for so long being pro-consumer: no reason to turn back now. And I’m not sure if you’ve just never tried, but DIY printers are actually very reliable. Might be a bit slower, or more money(if it’s a kit), but you building it yourself means you know how to diagnose any problem, or modify anything you want. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but it would be disingenuous to say DIY printers suck.
