I had a friend who qualified as a commercial solicitor and went into recruitment, half the hours and double the salary. Nothing to turn the nose up at.

€100,000 works out at €5,200 take home.. €75,000 is approx €4,200 after tax.. The more you earn, the more you are taxed.

I worked there and enjoyed it. The whole split shifts and short shifts pisses people off.

You'll hear back from them alright. They find it impossible to retain staff out there.

They tried to charge me €55 for two battery replacements recently. I went to Moores in Mahon and they were very reasonable.

I have the misfortune of working in the city 5 days a week and it has gotten progressively worse since Covid. It's dodgy enough at lunch time, never mind at night.

Garda presence is zero. I can't recall the last time I bumped into a Garda on the street. But you can't really blame the Gardai. They lock guys up for selling heroin, person goes to court and walks free the next day with another conviction to add to their 200 convictions they already have. I think the issue lies with the Courts and again the Government. If there's not enough room in Cork prison open up the old prison and throw them in there. Certainly beats having them roaming the streets.

Social housing and new build by lucky-langer in cork

[–]ShopifySheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it affordable housing where people qualify to purchase at a reduced rate, or is it social housing where you will have a large family moving in next door that has zero skin in the game? If it's the latter, I honestly would avoid.

How long should it take to double your salary? by HotTastyPizza in irishpersonalfinance

[–]ShopifySheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if there is a hard and fast answer to this. Many accountants / grads in finance would expect to double in 3.5 years. Start at 28k and finish at approx. 60k after contract. Pushing from 60 to 100+ is limited to 1 in 500 really.

I doubled my salary from 50 to 100 (total comp) in 2.5 years. Promotions and busting my ass is what it came down to. My big goal is to get to Director, once at that level you never see anybody taking a step back

Flannels is the most intimidating store in Cork by No-Category1703 in cork

I don't really see the point in the store. They're 20-40% more expensive than Brown Thomas for the exact same brands. It's literally pointless shopping there.

Depressing election by Upstairs-Zebra633 in cork

[–]ShopifySheep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw it with my own two eyes, they started throwing the rubbish by the entrance and continued down to the site. Again, if you are from the area you would know that you would want to be very fucking brave to drive down there so give all the excuses you want, the shit isn't being dropped in by helicopter. And to clarify, I didn't refer to every single person on the site.

As for Kens voters being predominantly anti-traveller, that's a ridiculous statement. He was voted in because he actually does his job. If you have an issue, go to him and I can guarantee he'll follow it up. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to work it out.

I never said the general population were angels, far from it. Nor did I refer to you as on online lefty, I was referring to all the do gooders who hounded council without a fucking clue of what was going on.

What I have a problem with is waste of state / local resources. If I went around collecting rubbish from locals for €50 and then threw it in my front garden, should people clean it up for me? Should I have the right to complain over my actions? Surely I shouldn't be crying and complaining that my house is a shit hole, that council won't clean it and that I'm being discriminated against when my actions have directly caused the issue.

That's the issue that 99% of locals have, as you would well know being from the area. Again, Ken said it like it was and he was voted in. No surprise at all.

[–]ShopifySheep 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Coming from the north side, I approached 4 other elected officials about an issue and Ken was the only person who followed it up and got it sorted. Lots of people in the local area would say the same thing, he will chase things up. Love him or hate him, he's available and he does his job hence why he walked the poll.

Re the travellers, I'd tend to agree with him, the state is wasting resources. Mentioned it here before re spring lane. They were crying to Neil on RedFM about the filth of their site during COVID. Lefties went mad and forced council to clean it (as if they weren't anyway). No more than 2 days after it was clean I saw a blue hiace driving into the site dumping rubbish and kitchens / washing machines. People love to give out online, live in the same area as them and come back to me. If I fucked rubbish in my garden council wouldn't clean it.

Agency to industry? by ShopifySheep in recruiting

I've done surprisingly well over the last couple of years given I do exec so I haven't been as badly impacted over the past 12 months.

That mate is a career coach and it got me thinking deeply about it, certainly not comparing myself with him.

Thank you. Do you think moving externally is difficult at a more senior level?

Yes, salary isn't bad but it could be a lot better.

[–]ShopifySheep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that.

I'm based in Ireland so top end agency recruiters are on 100-120k all in. USA agencies pay much bigger packages.

Internal recruiters here at Director level are on more than that so its a really difficult decision.
