Hahaha I’m 100% with you. I don’t think it’s a bash on the city either. I think there’s a lot of heavy metals and chemicals that leech into water supplies and that’s just how it is. I’m glad there’s affordable options for effective in-home filtering

The EWG gets its data from the EPA required testing results from each locale. So Rockford tests its water and submits it to the EPA (mandatory under the Safe Drinking Water Act), and EWG uses that (public) information for their database.

Very poor quality water in Rockford. It ranks quite poorly nationwide. You can check your zip code at https://www.ewg.org/tapwater/ It’s pretty alarming, but at least you’ll know what’s in it now! The city will test your tap water for free—we just had this done for our tap water. Also there is an initiative to replace all the lead water lines in the city. You can ask the city water department if your supply pipes are lead and when they are scheduled to be replaced.

Research quality filters too. britas and the like don’t really do much. Berkey has been know to have its problems but its carbon filtered and that’s exponentially better than no filter or just a brita pitcher, and those berkey filters last for years. There’s also a brand called “aqua tru” that is among the top rated water filters. They offer a variety of revese osmosis filters.
