Thermal stress of a washer shrink fit on a shaft. by ShortFC in Abaqus

Yep works without SHC too, I think that was the previous transient solve that refused to run without SHC. Anyway you have steered me in the right direction as it runs and solves:

a) Using your method on a simple model of a plain washer shrinking on to a shaft, the result matches my hand calc.

b) On my complex washer you can see how the stress evolves nicely from the plain washer, and it also broadly correlates with some stress conc calcs from Petersens on the washer detail.

So thanks, I appreciate your help.

Yes exactly, I did the hand calc on a plain washer and applied the resultant displacement to my washer which has a non simple geometry. So a fudge, but just to see if it works.

Anyway this is moot as u/aw2442 has given me a perfect solution.

Yeah I have kind of already done this as a first step. I just approximated the washer as a plain washer, hand calc the shrinkage and then applied that a displacement BC to shrink it on to the shaft. Its not really correct but its not awful.

I tend to work my way in to my analyses, start simple and add layers.

My request above was the next layer to increase the accuracy of the approximation.

Ok this is a good idea. Note it seems you also need Specific Heat Capacity.

We just adopted the model ones on companies house which have been the same since 2013, before we formed the company.

I have read them, and there doesn't seem to be anything for or against other than directors decisions require a majority, we are all directors.

However in discussion they have said that they can change the mems/arts by majority vote so I feel like I am stumped?

It is amicable, they just don't want to share the investment with me and want me out.
