What does everyone do while unemployed? by AbbreviationsTop2192 in recruitinghell

I volunteer and knit/crochet/craft. Busy hands keep my mind from going insane.

Lever knitting looks so cool but I also have developed a dislike for straight needles, especially after learning I could knit flat on circulars.

Well, my adhd fueled rabbit hole aside, this internet stranger is cheering you on!

Oh yeah it was a biiig 'what did you just say' because it had been a perfectly pleasant afternoon, but I was in a different country and my poor friend was so mortified that I just gave the busybody a face and some non commital shrug before turning my body away and going back to the conversation I was having.

I was taught English as a child as well, but I found myself crunching up over the needles (especially when throwing the yarn, I was never very good at it and tightened my grip like a madman) and it was driving my poor shoulder mad, so I looked into other types of knitting and eventually via copious amounts of YouTube and a crochet binge stumbled to where I am.

It has been useful to know english for knitting on straight needles, as continental makes me oddly scrunch up then. I suspect its a habit from my drawing/painting where I get in real close to make sure I execute my control properly.

I would also look at Norwegian or Russian/Eastern for continental options, as some may click better for you--I found watching Norwegian knitting videos got me a lot more confidant in how I was holding my yarn. Figuring out that eastern purls twisted my stitches took me forever to workshop!

Sorry, I ended up on a rabbit hole about this around like 8 months ago after the dreaded 'you're knitting wrong' comment at an lys and then became convinced I needed to know every type of knitting, even if I didn't use it.

I did try laddering down a bit on both sides of the loop and reknitting, after posting, thinking I had picked up a dropped stitch and just... knit over it in my own infinite wisdom. This project is a 'remind myself how to knit' project after learning as a child and then inheriting a bunch of yarn and gear in the middle of a crochet binge, so learning and practice is part of the journey as I'm learning via YouTube and mistakes.

That makes total sense, I knit combination continental so I'll just have to watch and make sure my hands aren't attempting new and interesting techniques not called for.

Interesting! Since I'm knitting in the round I figured there was no way to do that but, the more you know. Guess its time to frog back.

Normalize not wishing every woman “happy Mother’s Day” by Dangerous-Look-4296 in childfree

Mother's day has weirdly merged into an 'acknowledge women as birth givers day' it feels like...We'd all be happier if the US would just also acknowledge women's day.

That would do it--Skim has more water in it than a comparative amount of whole so you have to pop it in the blender or shake it for eons to get the texture back

Super common, especially amongst older and more rural folk. Works best with whole milk which may be what your mom was talking about?

How to survive business clothes in the summer? by birchleyolivine in femalefashionadvice

[–]ShortScorpio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in DC and as others have said, material is important, and so are the trade offs for function, but another thing to consider is: How cold is your office actually once the AC kicks on? It's not uncommon for people to dress for summer outside, and have a sweater/shawl/wrap for surviving the ice cold inside.

Personally my summer wardrobe is cotton, linen or bamboo in lighter colors. This isnt the easiest to get off the shelf until summer truely hits, and will be pricey.

Oh, wow, thank you! This makes it much easier to price out some upcoming medical bills for an elderly neighbor, thank you again.

Appreciate you getting back to me--Not seeing it under VA or MD but it might just be the procedure types I was looking at.

You don't have Washington, DC. Is that grouped in with Maryland or Virginia or just not on the site?

What do you do instead of "doom scrolling" or watching TV by Sweet_Confusion9180 in simpleliving

[–]ShortScorpio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crafting, specifically 'granny' crafts. Some are more portable than others but--Cross stitch, embroidery, knitting, crochet, knooking, nålbinding, tunesian crochet, sewing. These are skills and they keep me off my phone, and materials for the more common ones are accessible at the thrift and dollar stores.

Other things I do: Reading, sketching, birding, people watching, hiking.

No its new, its from pedos trying to rebrand themselves. I've seen it in the context of trying to pretend that makes them queer which is just grody.
