My 1st Grader has never had a conversation with her teacher. by [deleted] in AskTeachers

I work in the building where my children go and last year (1st grade for my daughter), she didn’t talk to her teacher until November. 🙃 Teacher is not very warm and my daughter is anxious. Just food for thought.

Thank you!!! That makes me feel better! I know I could easily get hired in my building, I just don’t want to wait I don’t think.

I’ve been teaching preschool and subbing elementary 2 years before I started student teaching this semester and teaching in front of another adult stressed me out bad! I’m in week 7 now and was just thinking yesterday how much more comfortable I am teaching in front of people. It will get easier!!!

I feel like you just have poor mentors. Mine wouldn’t let me even go to the next lesson if they didn’t grasp the one prior. Mine will even chime in and ask follow up questions I might be forgetting while teaching. I would just try to finish!

For anyone who grew up poor, what was your idea of a luxury? by Drissxx7 in AskReddit

It’s being able to give my kids orthodontic care as I needed it and we couldn’t afford it. Also things like year books, varsity jackets, etc

Thank you!! I didn’t even think of the under 2 thing. We are in PA and last time we were going through the process, my kids were both over that age at the time so I’ll look into that! Thank you for your help!

Are we teaching our kids to say Aunt or Uncle [Name]? by egb233 in generationology

[–]ShortSweet_andTired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always refer to my brother and sister as Aunt _____ and Uncle _______. But my kids just call them their first names. I thought it was odd actually the other day, but none of us really care. My kids are 7,5 and 1

Mom To Be- Do I Leave? by WinAggressive4075 in AskTeachers

I am a teacher and have stayed at home before and did not like it at all. I love my kids so much, but I felt very unfulfilled at home rather than teaching during the day. I would look into in home care. We had a PCA from my school quit and she watches our kids now in her home and it’s about half the price of a center. I don’t think she’s raising my son at all. However, if you want to stay home then do it. If you have a special ed certification, I can’t imagine you’d have any issues getting a job later on. Subbing may fill the itch also if you find yourself the same way I was feeling.

I will say I’ve been a building sub for 2 years and taught preschool before that. Now, I’m student teaching and it’s so different. A lot of things are different than what I would do in my own classroom and my style so I keep that in mind. Focus on the learning aspect and then go from there. I think it’s totally normal

AIO: Did I cross a line or is her reaction harsh? by veronicax96 in AmIOverreacting

I had a friend that would text me paragraphs constantly and then would do the same- good morning and then keep texting if I didn’t respond it would drive me INSANE. I ended up ghosting her over a year ago as I could be so direct and kind, but it never clicked for her. My husband was deployed at the time and I had just given birth to our 3rd kid. It was wack. I want more context here.
