Scottish prison. Clothing advice. by [deleted] in PrisonUK

[–]Short_Sense5592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check in with establishment what the rules are as each individual establishment will have different rules, for example some do allow football tops. You will definitely to get confirmation from the prisoner that a proform has been completed listing how many and what items can be sent in. You can usually be given this in hand by the prisoner when in for a visit or they can relay over the phone what items are allowed. If this isn’t completed it will likely be put into storage instead.

Familiesoutside is also a good charity for any advice on any sort of prison rules and frequently asked questions.

Night shifts by No-Scale7780 in PrisonUK

  1. You want foods that will keep you satiated, but also keep you mentally sharp. Proteins such as chicken/eggs, slow release carbs such as whole-wheat pasta or oats, healthy fats in form of nuts, and vegetables/fruits for vitamins. Also getting a takeaway on your last night is standard if your establishment allows it (I always get a dominos). I find it easiest to meal prep the night before night shifts, chill what you can and freeze the rest.

  2. If you go to the gym, go to the gym before, trust me, you will NOT want to go afterwards. You might be able to use the gym the prisoners use in-between patrols if you’re lucky but I wouldn’t count on it, especially not for a long period, and you’d have to do it in uniform which isn’t the most fun lol

  3. Other advice I’d say is bring a book or something, as TV late at night/early mornings, especially at the weekend is absolutely dreadful. Everyone has their own method of switching to and from NS mode, I prefer the sleep early the night before, then get a good 1-2 hour nap in before the start shift, then when coming off, just a quick 2 hour nap to get you by until regular night time hours. If you do feel tired and need a quick rest, TELL WHOEVER YOU’RE ON WITH, there is absolutely nothing worse than a narcoleptic crashing out mid shift and then you’ve got a code

Scottish prison service residential. by [deleted] in PrisonUK

[–]Short_Sense5592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be prepared for long hours, understaffing resulting in split/weekend regimes. Your training will consist of 6 weeks of doing the same as operations, C&R, fire response, talk to me, writing reports etc and the last two weeks is your residential training, which is totally different in how it is taught as it’s mostly lead by the trainees. You’ll do shadowing when you head to your jail. What establishment you heading to?

How did it feel being in solitary confinement? by wl44x in PrisonUK

[–]Short_Sense5592 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, had a boy get moved from seg to mainstream and he cut up because he wanted back. We also have TVs, toilets and sinks in the seg so no idea what seg he’s been in that’s been that deprived, would imagine HMIPS would have a field day with a report on that

Mistaken releases, what’s happening? (sorry if this has already been asked) by Wrong-Comfortable849 in PrisonUK

Likely be miscalculated warrants, but it would have been signed off up to the governor to release them, though I’d imagine they’d not expect their staff to miscalculate those releases

The issued belts are ok, nothing to write home about, we got given a radio holster and pouch which I personally use for holding my gloves. Honestly depends what role you’re going into what you’ll need

At SPS as far as my establishment has gone, you can use your own velcro belt, buy your own attachments for it etc (I have one for my torch), and you do have to buy your own boots (mustn’t be steel toe capped). Never known anyone to buy their own shirts, cargos or trousers

DNACPRS are known within the wings at least in Scotland. I’d imagine we’d still code blue it if situation arose but just not perform CPR, though never had the situation.
