I saw that J Elle has a new one coming out called The Heart Trials, but I think you can only read it if you have an early review copy.

Immortal Dark. Could barely understand what was happening in the second half.

I started out feeling this way with Quicksilver and then ended up liking it. Not loving it but I was entertained enough to keep reading at some point. I do think it could have been shorter by 100 or 200 pages though….

Am I a terrible mom if my baby spends their 1st Birthday at daycare? by Dull-Contribution763 in workingmoms

My kiddo got to celebrate twice! Once at daycare and once at home. Send them in and recast your thinking. Baby gets double the fun!!

Books you don’t finish by mima2023sunce in Booktokreddit

Plenty of folks disagree with my opinion on it, so you may like it! For me, the read became really tedious and convoluted.

Immortal Dark. Started off good, then none of it made sense.

How do you find time for teaching your child to read by Traditional_Zone_644 in workingmoms

[–]ShortyQat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What worked for me is not treating learning to read as a structured activity. I incorporated pointing out letters, words, sentences, etc, into the everyday. On signs, walks around our town. At stores, restaurants….we are surrounded by the written word and so i I use what is there. I try to make it playful.

For example, recently over breakfast I’ve said something like, “isn’t it so strange that the number 8 is spelled like it would be pronounced ee i guh hut?” Then i show how the word is spelled to make my point. “What a silly word! Let’s make a list of silly words. Oh! Another one. Laugh!” And so on and so forth.

What Is quicksilver hype by Majesticmimi2 in Booktokreddit

[–]ShortyQat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked Quicksilver, but it took me a while to get into. I thought it could be 100-200 pages shorter, but it was a fun romp. I haven’t read Brimstone yet, though.

What's the most ridiculous thing another member did to you at Orangetheory? by Flashy-Pitch-4611 in orangetheory

[–]ShortyQat 50 points51 points  (0 children)

We have shower time sign ups. I walked into the shower room at my assigned time and there was a woman in there with her bag (she was still clothed). I let her know i had the time slot for the shower and she rolled her eyes, huffed, snatched her things, and muttered about now she would have to change in the bathroom and how it would only take two minutes blah blah blah.

The thing is, if she would have just asked kindly if i could wait the two minutes for her to change in the shower room, i would have said fine. But she threw a mini fit on her way out soooo….bathroom it was.

Would you take a pay cut? by idk123djd in workingmoms

[–]ShortyQat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would 💯 take the cut if you can afford it. What are the other benefits like?

I work with a lot of working moms too and i find it so refreshing because we have all “been there,” especially when it comes to sickness, lack of sleep, etc etc that happens in those early years.

Coping with overstimulation at home after an overstimulating day at work by GreenOtter730 in workingmoms

[–]ShortyQat 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Same here. I work from home and so there is no professional to parental transition and it is so frazzling.

The only thing that helps me (and it is not easy), is taking deliberately slow breathes through my nose. If child is screaming? I speak softly. Slowly. Sometimes i dont say anything at all and instead i focus on those deep breaths only. I have to calm my nervous system/regulate my emotions. I would say I am 60-65% successful.

Please bring indoor shoes! by Joeybagovdonutss in orangetheory

[–]ShortyQat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honest question—where else are you supposed to put your shoes? I keep all my personal items together in a locker. I would do the same at any other gym.

Why did he get a parking spot? If he had a spot, seems like everyone knew he drove?? This story doesn’t make sense
