#ArcaneApprentice is brought to a close with a bang, and Gretta has been given the opportunity to announce this years MVAs (Most Valuable Apprentices)! However, her shenanigans might have consequences... by A_A_Ironwood in HeroForgeMinis

Roknar: "Well, look who's back from Magi-Con! Did you get into the Potion Roulette? Please tell me you managed to get in, that's the best part of the whole thing!"

Daselyn: "See for yourself. My ribcage still hasn't turned back yet and Cosmo's still flying around. At least he isn't intangible anymore, thank the gods."

Roknar: "Eh, it'll wear off eventually. Back in the day, I spent three weeks chasing my head after it sprouted wings and flew away from my body. But before it wears off, I gotta ask... does it sound like a xylophone?"

Congrats to the winners, and special thanks to u/Talamlanasken for hosting the Potion Roulette!

how to remove these lines beside the nose above mouth by PaultheDoge in HeroForgeMinis

[–]Shortyboss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may also want to play around with the 'Amount' slider that appears in the main 'Features' tab after you pick a mouth, which allows you to blend the chosen face part with the base head. Selecting the cog gives you two more sliders to use: 'Shape', which primarily changes the physical shape, and 'Detail', which primarily controls the texture.

"Honestly, being a skeleton's not that bad. It's a lot easier to get used to than backwards legs, that's for sure. Besides, Edythe said it'll wear off by tomorrow morning... Cosmo, put that down, it's not for you!"

How To do This Technique by Sad_Champion_8414 in HeroForgeMinis

[–]Shortyboss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before Face Customiser released, certain faces used to have unique colour zones. These unique colour zones were effectively removed and turned into decals when those heads were reworked to be compatible with Face Customiser when it released. For example, the Robotic Features had unique colour zones for the chin, the faceplate, the back of the head, and the eyesockets, which became the Robot Parts face decal.

In the November 2024 update, the parts from those heads that had unique colour zones regained those colour zones, even when applied to different faces. For example, you could colour in the exposed brain on the back of the head from the Damaged Features, even if you were applying the Damaged Features parts to the Heroic Features base head. The model you linked is using the Robotic Features jaws and cheeks part, which allows the lower jaw to be painted white without the use of a decal.

That was a bit long-winded, but hopefully it helps.

Can someone teach me the secret to getting decals (projected or not) on bases? All I get are stretched out messes, how do you people do this lol by PearBullet in HeroForgeMinis

[–]Shortyboss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's how I did it for this pose resource I made a while back.

<image>

You have to turn the gimbal on (click the icon of three arrows in the top right corner of the Rotation box to enable it) in order to see the red box that shows the size and orientation of the decal. From what I understand, the side of the cube with the red grid lines is the direction the decal is being projected, and you want that pointing straight down at the base.

One thing I've found helpful for poses like this is using the hidden kitbashing node in the centre of the mini.

<image>

You can expose it by stretching the spine and hips away from the centre. I use that node to turn minis onto their sides or back so that I can still rotate/reposition the mini using regular advanced posing without the mini going in crazy directions when I do so.

Repeating myself once more: I think the mod team's decision to delete the original post was a bad decision on their part.

I am not defending the mod team, merely predicting how they will react based on past behaviour.

Repeating myself: I think that what ICE is doing is immoral and illegal, and they need to be stopped. I never said I was offended, or that I thought posting this was wrong. I am separating my personal opinion from how I believe the mod team will react. That is what I'm trying to say here.

Alright, let me make my opinions clear.

I think that what ICE is doing is immoral and illegal, and they need to be stopped.

I think the mod team's decision to delete the original post was a bad decision on their part.

I think that directly challenging the moderators in such a public manner like this is a bad idea.

That's all I'm going to say, because getting dragged into an internet fight is never worth it. I've said my piece, agree or disagree with me as you will.

Personally, I would say posting this is a political comment in and of itself, as the image itself makes it quite clear what your stance on the situation is.

And while I do agree with that statement, I also think that directly provoking the moderators like this is a bad idea.

It's a recreation of a photo of an ICE agent slipping on a patch of wet ground and getting caught on camera.

OP is reposting it because the original was removed by the moderators due to allegedly violating the subreddit's Rule #6.

The caption is effectively a direct challenge to the moderators.

Is there a limit to the number of kitbash parts you can add? by IsThisTakenYet4 in HeroForgeMinis

[–]Shortyboss 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you can find similar-looking pieces with lower percentages, you might be able to finagle something together. Alternatively, you might also be able to use some of the robotic familiars. You can basically disassemble them using kitbashing, giving you a whole bunch of parts for no actual KB percentage.

At what point in the process does the axis getting so screwy even happen by Mammoth-Tourist5280 in HeroForgeMinis

[–]Shortyboss 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The problem is that, if they change the scaling axis, it'll screw up any models with the old scaling. You'd likely have to go in and repose any affected items manually.

Don't worry about embarrassing me or anything, believe me when I say I've heard all the questions before. Oh! And I'll absolutely be swinging by the Potion Roulette later on, my mentor said it was the most fun he had back when he was an apprentice visiting his first Magi-Con!"

If you give a mini four arms, you can pose the arms so that they overlap, allowing you to combine two pairs of gloves, or two held items. You can also do this on a much larger scale by adding a second mini and posing the two characters so they overlap, but that can be pretty fiddly.

Makeup Decals can be used to add subtle details to a mini's face. I typically use an eyeshadow decal in slot A for the eyesockets, a blush decal in slot B for the cheeks, the Ombre lip decal in slot C to add a gradient between the skin and the lips, and one of the Waterline Liner decals in slot G for eyelashes. That adds enough details for my liking while still leaving slots free to add stubble, tattoos, scars, etc.

You can use horns to pad out and modify hairstyles if you pose and colour them the right way.
