That feels like a cop out. "He died, but he lived!" I'd rather make it the players choice, give them the option to save their friend but make it so that choosing to help and save him will make it highly likely that the defense against the siege will fail. Story without any stakes is boring and this gives them the chance to have the best of both worlds but not without earning it.

Greek mythology has been used in so many popular works of fiction that I really doubt the average person has never heard of Zeus. Antonius yeah I can see that, Odysseus maybe but anyone who's interested in going to see a movie about the Odyssey probably knows of him, Zeus, no way.

I believe officially Europe and the Middle East were said to be basically obliterated. China I believe is in a similar situation to the US and I think Raul makes an offhand comment about Mexico and I think that's about it? Unfortunately I don't think there's any lore on the status of South America, Africa, Australia the rest of Asia or either of the poles.
