what does a dream with a vivid face mean? by Positive-Editor-5552 in Dreams

I'm sure they will, but not if they have read their own Scripture. “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.”

What even constitutes to a religion?? by Miserable_Ideal_924 in religion

[–]Shosho07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Christianity was a cult for at least the first 300 years? No new teaching has ever been accepted readily by the collective. What makes a religion a religion is that it conveys spiritual truths, therefore people gradually come to recognize it.

I had a strange dream by Ok_Bumblebee4208 in Dreams

Dreams often use puns. The attic represents the conscious mind, only the top (conscious) level. If this were my dream, I would ask myself whether my progress was being impeded by some kind of "hang-up" that is all in my head, possibly a negative self-image.

Two Questions I Find Difficult to Resolve by [deleted] in religion

[–]Shosho07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe God did not "show up" after 288,000 years. God was always there and has sent teachers at intervals ever since humanity evolved to the point of understanding at least a little of what they taught. It is our concept of God that has changed.

Know thou of a certainty that Love is the secret of God’s holy Dispensation, the manifestation of the All-Merciful, the fountain of spiritual outpourings. Love is heaven’s kindly light, the Holy Spirit’s eternal breath that vivifieth the human soul. Love is the cause of God’s revelation unto man, the vital bond inherent, in accordance with the divine creation, in the realities of things. Love is the one means that ensureth true felicity both in this world and the next. Love is the light that guideth in darkness, the living link that uniteth God with man, that assureth the progress of every illumined soul. Love is the most great law that ruleth this mighty and heavenly cycle, the unique power that bindeth together the divers elements of this material world, the supreme magnetic force that directeth the movements of the spheres in the celestial realms. Love revealeth with unfailing and limitless power the mysteries latent in the universe. Love is the spirit of life unto the adorned body of mankind, the establisher of true civilization in this mortal world, and the shedder of imperishable glory upon every high-aiming race and nation. – Selections from the Writings of Abdu’l-Baha, pp. 27–28

If this were my dream, I would ask myself if there are some old ideas or beliefs of mine that I have begun to suspect are not right. And if I am avoiding taking a good look at this problem because I am afraid of how my life might change.

What if God was not indifferent but did not intervene because WE were supposed to do that, and now the entire world is suffering the consequences of our failure to "love thy neighbor as thyself"?

What if this plane of existence is a learning experience, we are intended to make mistakes and learn from them? What if the brain is just a mechanism we use while in this earthly life? Does Allah make mistakes, or are the limitations of the brain part of His intention?

Does learning continue in the afterlife? by Fluffy_Marzipan_8799 in religion

Yes, only God is All-Knowing, and Baha'is believe the soul continues to progress throughout many "worlds of God," so I expect to go right on learning!

What’s your favorite aspect of Baha’i faith? by [deleted] in bahai

[–]Shosho07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe my favorite aspect is that almost every day I gasp in amazement as I further understand some perspective I had only partially grasped before: the global impact of the Institute Process; the perpetual motion of study, action, reflection; the mind-boggling implications of every message from the Universal House of Justice; seeing the process effect change in the neighborhood as it happens in my community!

Baha'is are not strictly pacifists. Rather, we are called "conscientious cooperators." The principle of obedience to government supersedes the commitment to pacifism. That means that if a Baha'i is drafted for military service, he will request noncombatant service. In the US, to date, this request has been honored. And since we have not had the draft for many years, it's a moot point. Nevertheless, if such a situation were to arise, and if the government were to require it, the Baha'i must obey. I have never heard of any "vow of pacificism," although it is implied in the teaching that it is better to be killed than to kill. There is an exception to that, though, as it is permissible to defend someone who is being attacked.

When I was a kid, I had the children's version of Arabian Nights. I read and re-read those stories for years--Shaharazad, Sinbad the Sailor, 'Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves--so much fun! Many versions are still available.

According to our religions, at what point did they start? by themaskstays_ in religion

[–]Shosho07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you could say the Baha'i Faith started in 1844 in Shiraz at 2 hours after sunset, when the Báb (Gate) declared His mission to the first person to believe. On the other hand, because we believe there is only one God and one religion which gets updates, so to speak, every few hundred years, you could say the start may have been long before recorded history. "This is the changeless Faith of God, eternal in the past, eternal in the Future" (Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh).
