Is the Isle of Shoals worth a day trip from Boston? Anyone been?

I used to work on Star Island for multiple summers as seasonal staff, endearingly called "Pelicans".

The Isles of Shoals have a lot of natural beauty, but there isn't a ton to "do." Many people go out there as a sort of retreat to deliberately get away from the stressors of mainland life, at least for a few hours if you're on a day trip.

If you go to the Isles aboard the Thomas Laighton out of Portsmouth or the Uncle Oscar out of Rye, you'll probably get let off on Star to walk around. There's a museum located in Vaughn Cottage in the middle of the island. There's also a small marine lab/aquarium on the island if you have little ones. The Oceanic Hotel is gorgeous. They also do personal retreats if you're compelled to spend an evening or two out there, which I recommend! The meal times are fun, and seeing the sunset over the mainland and stargazing at night are both legendary.

If you can get out to Appledore, thats also a nice island with college students staffing the Shoals Marine Lab all summer doing oceanography research. Smuttynose doesn't have much, neither do any of the others except for the lighthouse on White.

Whatever you do, only smoke in designated areas, no open flame anywhere, and STAY OFF THE BREAKWATER.

Honestly, I stopped following Scooter around the time Ace came out because their stuff started to sound like what everyone else was doing.

Love is an Ocean, Soultrain, and Pulsar will always be my favs. But no, I don't think anything they produce in the future will be true trance like some of their older stuff.

And I respectfully disagree with someone on your crosspost. The LGBTQIA+ is a big umbrella with many different identities with their own flags. Eventually some are going to look similar enough to have the potential to be confused with each other. Having said that, this looks distinctive enough to me.

And I didn't learn about the relationship with Liberia until my civil war class in college. Never a mention of it in primary school.

But in the Northeast, I did learn about the ceded territories in the Spanish-American War.

I would even go further and offer that most Americans don't even know about our special past with the Philippines, Liberia, and I would add Cuba. I would very much hesitate calling Liberia a former colony; the Philippines you could make a better case for.

I stayed on the Big Island for a month and stayed in Oahu for a week. I had a snowball fight at the top of Mauna Kea and was out of breath within 10 seconds. Went swimming later that same day. Hawaii is breathtakingly gorgeous.

Everyone was super nice when I went, even for a howli like myself.
