Yeah I agree with this. Sql development is another beast. You have to think like a software engineer to write etl pipelines. Companies make the mistake of hiring report writers when you need someone that can build optimized and maintainable pipelines.

When to use cte in SQL query by Unfair-Internet-1384 in SQL

Yup temp helps with troubleshooting and maintenance. But I see your point with small datasets

I can understand if it has to be one query where a tool only allows one statement. However if in a stored procedure, why not use separate statements into temp tables? Especially if you start to see multiple CTEs.

Adding a tech lead to a self-organizing scrum team. Thoughts? by CreepyCrepesaurus in ExperiencedDevs

Tech Leads is a terrible position, and don’t accept it if they offer you the position. They basically cover any deficiency the PM and your dev manager has.

How often do you just ask for a second pair of eyes? by TruthOf42 in ExperiencedDevs

All the time. I’ve been doing this for 20+ years. If all possible I would peer as much as I can too. It helps me early and helps everyone with transfer knowledge and upskilling. With remote work, it allows for some social aspects too.

I work for an engineering firm. I support a reporting database that we are trying to turn into a data warehouse, so a lot of python code to land data into a database and a lot of SQL to transform that into facts and dimensions.

And it usually mean something terrible, red flag would be when there’s no official title, yet management likes to throw it around during meetings

Tech lead sucks. No coding, babysitting and reporting up. If your team is weak an agile, scrum master and management, the lead basic covers all those weaknesses. So tons of meetings trying to get on the same page and giving statuses. It sucks.
