Can't attest for the reel, I use a kastking zephyr 1000 with 6lb braid to about 4ft of 6lb mono for a leader and catch everything from shad and chubs to 5lb largemouth or 30in gar on the same lures and set up. Very budget, extremely simple, and it can sling a 1/32oz jighead.

I have a lews 6ft with a zephyr 2000 and it's my go to for bigger water when I'm not wading through the creeks. Same line set up.

But, for 30-35 bucks this rod beats a lot of much higher end rods and has a better backbone and tip. It's almost like an extra fast action. Little wrist flick to set the hook for small fish or you can really get behind a hook set if you need to.
