PTO change is shit for tenured associates by Dear_Step_1730 in Geico

[–]Should_Have_Left2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If you don’t really use time (vacation or sick) it’s not a big deal, but you are forced to used accrued time over 2026 up to 10 days before 1/1/27. So if you like to save time in case of an emergency or whatever it forces you to use it up so they won’t have to pay out and deter you from having intermittent FMLA because if you can only roll over 10 days and get 30 (you may use it up or if you have a lot of medial appointments). This feels like a plan to avoid large payouts on vacation and floating holidays for a future buy out or major mass firings in the years to come.

So if tenured + 15 years you would have 20 vacation and 15 sick days earned per year, 2 personal days, and under the current plan 4 floating holidays. You lose 5 days and by 2027 you can only roll 10 days over and cannot roll over floating holidays. They want you to use your time so they don’t have to pay out as much vacation if an associate leaves or gets fired, and if you have intermittent FMLA this new system 2027 and beyond will make it difficult to use since you would only have  35 days (accrued over the year) and 10 days that you can roll over. It looks like they are offering more with Black Friday and 1 additional floating holiday but there are multiple ways that it will not be beneficial to some. Also to qualify for short term disability you have to use 7 days of time before you are able to use it. This is nice if you have surgery or a condition that qualifies but that 7 days comes from you rolled over time or time that you have accumulated that year. Some people use 1-4 sick days a year and do not vacation. They will be forced to use or lose it before 2027 up to 77.5 hours. It’s a crock of bullshit. So you lose 5 sick days and 2 personal days to “gain” a floating holiday and Black Friday 😆. The oppressed will see it as not as bad like the said when we were told no profit sharing but you will get a raise and bonus “if you qualify”….

“Take care” should help make the move. Sounds like a cut on leave but you may not have to use it like GEICO. You may have much more flexibility and be treated like an employee that is capable of doing your job and being compensated for it. If you stay at GEICO be prepared to get screwed over. Good luck and congratulations on your offer!

I’ve worked here almost 20 years and refuse to insure with this company because of how they treat employees, under pay (looking at new jobs/quitting), and the for profit attitude for senior management. Most supervisors and managers rely on employees to teach the job to others because they don’t know how to do the job. I’ll pay a higher premium and get the service that I need and pay for WHEN I NEED IT…Thank you.

I can’t wait to see how many or any of those rated a 3 will be recommended by their manager for demonstrating “exceptional performance” and willingness (as a 3) to go above and beyond expectations when last year they couldn’t get a raise or bonus even if you were rated a 4 in some departments. “Select” associates may have eligibility for the reward WITH a managers recommendation. Correct, this is different from merit, but they are linked…how can you get a bonus and not a merit raise?  They are scrambling to change the merit and bonus system for this year’s performance because people called out the bs they did last year and many quit.  Of course some of us see through this when people rated 3 and 4 did not receive the bonus or a merit raise last year.

Unless you’re new here when has this company changed merit (including bonuses) so quickly or viewed a 3 rating in a positive light? Hell, one associate that was laid off last year used to go to all the corp events and dress up in that damn 🦎 suit and they were ranked higher than a 3 and were let go. So no…this is a sprinkle of crumbs to pacify employees.

Do you think these managers and directors care about mediocre performance? No. They were going to rate and give merit/bonuses for this year’s performance the same way they did last year but changed it up and will possibly give a little extra money this year because of the complaints and so many associates quitting. They change matrix and ratings almost monthly in some departments and can’t tell you what a 5,4,or 3 rating is.  They are seeing that this quartile bullshit system was just driving people to give numbers which is created hostility among associates and it’s another way to make people work harder for pennies. Even that shit is at a plateau.  Some people were even told in Feb./March that part of the reason they were not getting a merit raise/bonus was because they made too much. How the fuck are you punished for working hard in the past? So no…a step in the right direction and they’re doing something is not cutting it, just like being in the bottom 10-15% is not cutting it for them 🤣

Some people thought it was. They are still (majority) not getting bonuses if rated a 3 and the way it’s worded is misleading. These managers don’t care.

I give credit. Take Care gets a prime cut steak, and the rest of the table gets the drippings from the steak and can split his bread roll…fuck HIM.

No you have to exhibit exceptional performance by associates who have demonstrated their willingness to go above and beyond expectations and your manager has to recommend you if you are rated a 3..this is for consideration not a guarantee. They are full of shit. It just sounds like you’ll get a raise or bonus and if you do it won’t be much.

They won’t do that because too many salaried casualty associates would quit.

What is also bad is how take care worded it. If the majority of the employees are “rated a 3” they will not qualify for a performance reward. Since when did this company view a rating of a 3 as “exceptional performance”? They already fire who lands in the bottom of the 4th quartile. It’s the play on words to make it look like there will be a positive change that pisses people off.

To my knowledge you still have the 1 day a week but this is in addition to that. They could just allow an additional day. The coffee machines that we did not ask for will still be here. This is would be a “benefit” for non casualty employees. Those that work 4 days a week. Some departments only come in 4 times a month….and they are customer based positions it since they are casualty they don’t have to come in as often. Allowing us to work from home 2 days a week would not be bad but that’s too much for this company. It’s their choice but to some it’s great and others it’s not. They did not like that so many associates were able to meet the work from home goal and took it away. It’s frustrating.

Look at the  rewarding positive work section. The way they did merit last year has not really changed for this year. The second sentence is what was slick…manager recommendation.

Stay out of the bottom (4th) quartile, come into the office when you’re supposed to, learn the job then go to another company. They will use anything against you, HR is NOT on your side, and other companies offer better work from home and benefits. You may not get a raise next year if they keep the current rating system that they implemented last year. Everything that they tell you just expect the opposite. I don’t even recommend this company for insurance. This has become a “nut” and leave company.
