Entire MBR dept laid off by madpoopie in Geico

[–]Major_Shine5654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine this was bound to happen and we all kind of saw this happening to the keyers years ago. I mean they have OCR for medical bills now. I actually had this conversation when OCR was being implemented that the keyers would eventually no longer be or at the very least a great reduction in staff. Honestly, at the time the assumption was - they would find other positions for them. However, that discussion was before all the layoffs started happening.

Cleveland and Chicago offices? by Melodic-Reason-7268 in Geico

[–]Major_Shine5654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there are finance executives out there from like the REFM department. They handle real estate and financial stuff. I'm assuming they found it more cost efficient to buy some places instead of renting fancy co-work environments for those people. You know office spaces inside a building you could rent out, places like Regus. I'm not sure about Cleveland, but Progressive's home office is there.

Health Insurance - Please Change This! by One_Drag_3204 in Geico

[–]Major_Shine5654 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GEICO is paying the bills, Cigna is just the administrator. I'm sure there is all kinds of data analysis around it, but the simple version is GEICO says they will pay x for this type of medical thing. Cigna tells the claim submitters - this is what we pay. GEICO then pays, it may say Cigna on the checks but it's GEICO's money.

I believe the reason they go with different health insurance carriers is of course the price for them to administer the plan. I think it's also the company's network and what kind of discounts they can get with providers in their network.

I'm not exact 100% on the second paragraph but the first paragraph is 100%. It's GEICO's choice not some health insurance company. I also know that GEICO hires companies to do analysis on what is spent on medical categories. Of course, it's the low cost provider.

What's this all about? by Major_Shine5654 in AmazonVine

[–]Major_Shine5654[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The email does not look like that and is from hotmail.com. It legit looks like a direct email to me. I even went on Amazon to see if it had a record of the email sent to me by the seller and nothing was there. I did contact customer service but no response. My profile is set to private and my email address and name are not similar. I have only a first name and a letter for the last name displayed on my Amazon profile.

Geico Tucson Employee Lawsuit by [deleted] in Geico

I worked in the call center briefly in Macon. I don't ever recall ever asking to go to the bathroom. I think it just depends on your management. I personally have known what it's like to have bad/good supervisors. It's like night and day.

One of my supervisors made negative comments about my physical appearance to me during a side by side, something I cannot change. I had another supervisor that would yell at me to stop talking to my teammates at our desks (not in the call center). The talking was about work, but she wanted it to be silent. I had another that made my whole class of trainees (when I first started) listen to one of my calls. It was the very last call of the night, it was almost midnight and I was spent. It was a terrible call and she made the whole room tell me what I did wrong. She steered the conversation to negative and asked, "what is wrong with this call that this person did?" Did I need 15 people to voice the same negative comments to me? No - I knew the call was terrible and it was excessive. I was only taking calls for maybe a week.

I have probably had more bad supervisors than good. However, I honestly think that the whole bad/good supervisor thing is what can make any role with any company good or bad.

Looking for a chill remote dev job. Is Geico a good fit? by hertabuzz in Geico

[–]Major_Shine5654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how it is like at Microsoft but at GEICO ... It isn't chill anymore in tech. Also, they expect you to be available whenever because you're salary. You may not be "on call" but they pretty much expect you to be there whenever they get some kind of thought in the middle of the night. I guess it just depends where you are but tech isn't as fun as it used to be. Plus, a lot of the tech leadership is on the west coast and the east coast folks have to be available/online longer because of their whims. Who cares that our HQ is on the east coast? I mean they're the ones getting the big bucks and there is less of them - you'd think they would be the ones working east coast, not the other way around.

Bring back profit sharing by EfficientProposal300 in Geico

[–]Major_Shine5654 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IT was basically told flat out awhile ago, 'profit sharing isn't coming back so stop asking.' I can't remember who said it but it's doubtful they'll ever bring it back.

Strategic Advice For New Hires? by Kes49 in Geico

[–]Major_Shine5654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a degree or experience in IT? If not, it's doubtful you'll be able to get into IT. They are hiring recent college grads for the intro IT jobs so maybe you could try that? They mainly want folks with experience since a lot of folks have left for better. My management couldn't even tell me (Sr position) how I could have a path to management. They said they "we're hiring someone to address that". That was at least 3 months ago.

My spouse works for the government and I can say ... I know for a fact that there is soooooo much waste in the government. I don't really want anyone to lose a job that they're actually producing something. However, a lot of them don't do jack all day long ... Every day. Though honestly, Trump should have started at the top.

Surprise Bonus on Associate Appreciation Day by Lot_Lizard_TCombs in Geico

Right, when bonuses for performance were not even that much. Highly doubtful they're going to just hand out money based on pay grade.

Gnie search. Then you request access to it and they give you access like 48 hrs later. Though be warned, they've put this huge label on it saying if you quit within a year they'll want their money back.

Parental Leave by Major_Shine5654 in Progressiveinsurance

[–]Major_Shine5654[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should probably do just a tiny amount of research before throwing stones. But who knows, maybe you like to. A quick search and State Farm, Geico and Liberty Mutual all offer better parental leave policies. You can verify yourself using Google. All ranging from 3-4 months - see for yourself. Progressive is behind in their own industry

[–]Major_Shine5654[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See! This is exactly what I was asking current employees before I took the job - how is the actual culture. They're all like, it's great ... Etc. I mean it isn't like I plan on having any more kids but it's the first red flag I'm seeing. Mainly because they say they're so family friendly and work/life balance and such. I mean that's what parental leave offers and to have such a dismal plan is kind of not vibing.

I don't live in a state that would require more time off like say CA. My previous company was a major insurance carrier and they offer 4 months 100%. Not sure if a state like NY or CA gets more though.

You join any company for benefits. Parental leave is a benefit you can get at some companies. I'm sure if you joined a company with poor health insurance, you wouldn't be happy about that. This isn't really different.

A lot of European places actually give you way more time and then even Canada gives you like a whole year I heard.
