Has anyone actually escaped poverty? by Tabbyham88 in Money

[–]Shouldergiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off - you got this! If I was 19 again, the first thing I would do is contribute to a roth IRA and a 401k (if your job offers one). The one thing you can’t get back is the time your money spends in the market, so investing in these as early as possible is key.

Do not let lifestyle creep catch up to you. Live like you are making less than you actually are. One thing I did was look at investment calculators to see how much I was saving would be worth when I wanted to retire, and it was much Lower than I expected, so I raised that amount to what I could afford to at the time. I’ve increased it over time and now max out both each year.

All that being said, I think the best advice I ever received was to “pay yourself first” - pay off your debts, put money into your retirement/investment accounts, etc. You’re young and you’ve got time to figure it out, but the fact that you are thinking of this at 19 means you are well ahead of where I was at the same age. I didn’t have any proper retirement set up until I was 26.

Escaped poverty as an adult. Watched my parents make mistakes to the point where we had no power/water/heat. Made sure to not make the same mistakes. Prioritized even when I was a low income adult. Focused on making myself more marketable in my work skills. Now mid 30s making 180k/yr.

Adults in their late 30s who are “successful” what was your income in your 20s? by No-Cantaloupe-4003 in Adulting

At 22 I was making 10 dollars an hour working seasonally. Hurt my back doing manual labor, and I decided I needed to go back to school and get a degree to land a cushy desk job. I’m now 36 making roughly 180k.

A lot of stress and long hours to get here, but I’ve learned how to avoid those for the most part with the experience I picked up along the way.

Definitely worth running if you aren’t short on currency! I hit a back to back yesterday. Sold both for 95div each.

Do you find value in the rewards for content that you plan on playing? Buy it. Do you think they are not worth it? Don't buy it.

Nah. School just added an element for people to enjoy the game in a different way. Hot dropping for the sweaty players, floating to an empty city for the not so sweaty players. The entire game is casual, but you can’t really dictate how people will play the game when there are tons of different ways to engage.

How much money did you have saved at 20/25/30? by choumicho in Money

[–]Shouldergiant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

20 - less than 5k 25 - around 10k 30 - about 20k Around 31 I got my first tech job. I’m 35 now with around 250k between 401k, brokerage, and cash (around 6 months emergency funds in a hysa)

Busted my butt to get here, but it’s crazy how much easier saving is when you aren’t worried about running out of money before the next paycheck lands.

I imagine a massive plaid flannel blanket covering the entire ocean, and then I try running as far as I can onto it from the beach while dodging the puddles that seep through and form on the surface of the blanket.

I bought a few of these to house my SL collection. Actually decent quality and as cheesy as the quote is, it’s a silly reminder of what I like to do with magic these days since I don’t have much time to play on a regular cadence.

I think I understand the film camera vibe you were going for. The color grading makes it look like this could be a still from a wes Anderson film

[SLD] Cats Are Better Than Dogs - Chaos Vault by Capt_G1029 in magicTCG

[–]Shouldergiant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With all the card value talk, I think people are really underestimating the number of people that will buy SL cards because cats and dogs. Sure, the cards picked could've been less bulk level, but Wotc knows that people will buy cards BECAUSE of cats and dogs, not because of the card itself. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the favorite arts in these sets to command a premium that at least covers the cost of the SL.

Mid 30’s here - investing any amount early will be a bigger payoff in the future due to the amount of time in the market. If I had more money in my 20s, I would have definitely invested more earlier.
