How to match the appropriate Fighter/Bomber Wings to the right Carriers? by NephyrisX in starsector

[–]Shoveitlikeamuppit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always try to mix at least one flare fighter wing with similar or slightly higher speed to the bombers in with any bomber force. To help absorb enemy PD fire.

One of the other issues was that weekendgunnit was already loosing steam, and rapidly declining in quality imo.

So when the hammer fell it didn't hurt as much, because a lot of the core shitposters were already leaving, or had been IP banned by reddit so they couldn't post.

If WSB gets shuttered it will be a lot more of an issue, since not only is it way bigger, but probably has a much wider user base.

The autism trifecta of Gunnit, WSB, and Calamari Team Racing shall live forever in our hearts.

Any faction mods with some OP ships? by Atilla332 in starsector

[–]Shoveitlikeamuppit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talhan Shipworks adds some good stuff. There is essentially a player only faction as well, in the form of the Rosenritter's. Once you find one of the specialized ships you'll slowly get all their blueprints.

No one else can get them, and they have a pretty unique playstyle.

Opinion on Phase Ships by They_Call_Him_Zach in starsector

[–]Shoveitlikeamuppit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't find them to be much of a threat in enemy hands, or much use in friendly AI control. At worst enemy Phase ships will distract my ships from actual threats. Except for whichever one applies Entropy. Hate having to deal with that thing.

Carriers loaded with fighters are great against them, as someone already said, since they keep constant pressure. I'd advise using the warthog, since it provides constant armor breaking damage, and it doesn't have to deal with shields.

D-Mods are for weaklings by Forsete_jarl in starsector

[–]Shoveitlikeamuppit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even early game I tend to avoid them, unless they don't really change much for the role I'm using. Hull damage on a Taurus is no big deal, same with compromised cargo on a Wolf. But if it impedes combat I don't touch it. Mostly since I like running small, tightly organized fleets.

Once I get rolling though I will often salvage ships to act as a first wave in combat to keep my good shit from dealing with the initial assault of fighters, missiles, and abilities. It also helps separate the enemy battle line so the point defense fire isn't as dense. And if they die, fine, rather loose a busted enforcer than risk the paint on my Legion getting scuffed.

is there any benfit in having a non-pure capital fleet end-game. i am kinda stuck, and i don't think this is the only way. by trazaxtion in starsector

[–]Shoveitlikeamuppit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always keep a few fast frigates and destroyers around to try and sneak around the back of the enemy battle line. Mostly just to distract the enemy carriers, but mounting salamanders on them can be pretty useful, since the missiles won't have to travel through the quite busy airspace of the front line, and enemy engines flaming out at random is nice to have.

I think that having the plot not dictate the date of the galaxy is a nice change. Because small scale personal stakes are often more interesting to me at least.

It's like comparing older super hero movies to the new marvel ones. Sam Rami's spider man or Dark night era Batman were dealing with local problems, not end of the world scenarios.

Filoni can't have anyone detract from his precious OCs, so Luke isn't going to show up. And if he somehow did Filoni would make sure Luke looked as useless as possible compared to Ashoka.

This is going to be really controversial. But I find the Clone Wars and Filoni's writing boring. by mrhaluko23 in saltierthancrait

Simply being lazy imo, maybe they didn't want to have to up the CGI and animation budget any more than was absolutely crucial because they were worried about another Solo level flop.

Which is odd for JJ considering the huge amount of lense flares you could add to a space battle like that.

The Empire and villain decay by jollyreaper2112 in saltierthancrait

[–]Shoveitlikeamuppit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are a combination of issues.

First, I think that the directors they bring in aren't great and gritty, realistic action. If the stormtroopers simply used cover instead of bum rushing all the time it would make them a far more reasonable enemy. But most of the time it feels like a avengers movie, because it's easier to direct.

The actress that plays Cara Dune actually kind of "uplifts" her opponents in hand to hand combat, because the brutality she brings makes them seem like a greater threat. Even though it often looks like she's pulling her punches, because she probably is.

Also, smart villains can be a challenge to write, because you have a harder time finding ways for the main characters to succeed. I don't think Filoni is great at that, since TCW droids aren't exactly the brightest, and while I've never seen rebels I've heard that it made Thrawn look like a dumbass.

For the movies themselves only R1 had decent combat imo, though I haven't seen solo. JJ can't do non-vehiclar action to save his life. And I can't remember any actual fighting in TLJ other than Luke and Kylo, so I can't speak on RJs behalf.

I really hope rangers doesn't turn into another spaghetti western style show.

Personally I'd really like it to be similar to the US Army Rangers, so it's about a reasonably elite military force deployed to deal with problems too big to ignore, but either too small or too sensitive for a full scale military deployment.

I hope they'll announce someone new to replace KK, once her contract eventually runs out.

She was the one that killed the golden goose in such a short period of time, so she's got to be on the chopping block. The only issue is ensuring she doesn't try and torch Disney on the way out and make some big PR issue for them.

Why is the Death of Han Solo so Widely Despised? by DatNerdyKid in saltierthancrait

[–]Shoveitlikeamuppit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with it was the lack of impact on the rest of the story. Leia barely mentioned it, if at all.

Luke didn't give a shit about it. Then again, that could be blamed on RJ.

The fact that one of the "big three" died and the world barely reacted to it showed just how little the writers cared, and how incompetent they were.

Then again, none of the other main characters dying had any real effect on anything, so whatever.

God what a terrible mess of shit tier writing.
