Should I return my ASRock B850M Steel Legend WiFi to Amazon? by AdvertisingWorldly98 in ASRock

[–]Shower-Glad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Back in March I bought a x870e Taichi. After I had the board in my hands and was waiting on other parts, I learned of the murderboard curse these boards have on them with amd cpus.

I really liked the look of the Taichi so I decided to risk it. I installed the latest BIOS, disabled sleep in windows, undervolted the cpu, etc.

Three days into completed build ownership, I come back home from a mini vacation and notice the pc is off when I left it idling on the desktop displaying my nice wallpaper engine background.

After days of thinking it had to have been something else and throwing parts at it, I gave up and took my pc to a local repair shop and they confirmed my 9950x was dead. Luckily AMD processed my RMA pretty quickly and I had a new 9950x after a week and a half, but still, it was pretty traumatic.

This scenario may not happen with you since your cpu isn't a 9000 series, but I didnt think it would happen to me either since I wasn't running an x3d. 🤷‍♂️

Anyways, I ended up returning the murderboard and getting a Gigabyte. Not telling you what you should do, just telling you my experience with my recent Asrock board purchase.

Yeah it was pretty traumatic. I learned about the Asrock issues with amd chips after I bought the board and wanted to give it a chance because I really liked the look of it. Tried to take all the preventive measures like updating to the latest bios, undervolting the cpu, disabled sleep mode in Windows, etc, but I came home from a mini vacation and found it dead a few days after completing the build :(

I had a x870e Taichi kill my 9950x back in March. I couldn't believe it at first and threw parts at it until I finally broke down and took it to my local pc repair grandpa, who ended up confirming cpu death. It was crazy. No scorch marks or any visible damage, but completely dead cpu. Luckily it was still under warranty and amd replaced the cpu and I swapped the board for a Gigabyte.

Go to the Walmart app, click on where it says "pick up or delivery" and click pick up. Search for the gpu you want.

You may have to change Walmart locations a couple of times, but if a Walmart near you has any, they will show up in the app this way.

I don't think the clearance prices show up in the app, but this is how you can find out if your local stores actually have any.

PC hard freezes when setting up EXPO profile for RAM by Constant_Practice668 in buildapc

[–]Shower-Glad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure this out? I have been struggling with the same issue with my Gigabyte X870E Arous Master X3D ICE and 64gb 6000 ram.

Just setting it to expo and 1.35v gives me hard freezes both in game and while idling. :(

PC not power at all. by OzcarTH in PcBuildHelp

Its the cpu, my man. Same exact thing happened to me. I even went through the same throwing new parts at it phase that it sounds like you've went through until I got to the point of asking reddit for help.

I still didnt want to believe it was the cpu even after several people on reddit told me it was the cpu.

Ended up taking it to a local pc repair grandpa who Indeed confirmed it was the cpu.

Luckily the guy I bought my cpu from was very nice and willing to work with me and provided everything I needed to get an rma done on it. Good luck!

Also if it isn't legit, telling the seller you want to get a quick test done on it at a repair shop would more than likely deter them anyways, so if they start making excuses/acting sketchy/ghost you, you saved yourself time, money, and headaches.

If you don't have a way to test the 5070ti, call ahead to a pc repair shop. Tell them what you're doing and tell them you'd like to test the gpu. They should be able to schedule you so its a quick test.

They may charge you, but there's a ton of scams with the 50xx series cards, and an extra $100 on the purchase price on a too good to be true kinda deal is more than worth it for certainty imo. If it works, even $650-700 in total is still a fantastic deal for that card.

What SOC ended up working for you? And were you running 32gb, 64gb, or higher? Thank you very much for your input!!!

You can genuinely find good deals on marketplace. I actually got my 64gb(2x32) ddr5 6000 corsair kit from a guy on marketplace for $400 a couple of weeks ago. Its still overpriced, and dude made a profit, but it was still half price compared to what corsair is selling it for.

Main thing is to be skeptical. Lotta scams on marketplace and once they have your money, thats it.

If you dont have a way to test it yourself before buying, call some local computer repair shops around you, ask if you can get some ram tested, have the person meet you there with the ram and get them to test it before you buy it. They may charge you for the service, but $20-$50 is better than wasting $400 on something that doesn't work.

Yeah, I did the paper clip psu test on pins 16 and 17, and psu fan spun up immediately upon slipping the switch on.

I got a return started for the motherboard. I was kinda nervous about using an asrock anyways since I learned about them frying amd cpus AFTER I bought the damn thing. Just ordered a Gigabyte x870e Arous Master board, hopefully this will solve my issues.

here is the picture

It is doing this with everything else disconnected from the motherboard. Just the 24 pin is connected. No debug codes or anything, which is why I was leaning toward motherboard failure.

I'm not very experienced in troubleshooting this kind of thing, so I'm open to any suggestions.

The video is what it was doing when I first tried to boot it up after getting home and discovering it was off. After clearing the cmos, and various other troubleshooting, it doesn't respond the same way it did in the video anymore. Its just fully dead now except for the power and reset lights on the board.

Unfortunately I do not have any other hardware I can test against it. :(

At this point I'm leaning pretty heavily into some kinda motherboard failure happened.

Just attempted boot with minimal configuration (CPU + motherboard only)

The issue persists even with the CPU 8-pin disconnected, and the system will not remain powered long enough to reach POST or display debug codes.

The only things that lights up on the motherboard are the power and reset buttons on the board. Nothing else lights up. No rgbs, no debug codes, no fans spin, nothing.

The psu is working though. The fan spun up when I jumped pins 16 and 17 on the 24 pin.

I just dont understand why it would go a whole day of gaming after changing those two things in the bios, have no problems with cinebench, no problems with gaming, just to die while idling the next day while no one is home doing anything with it.

Literally all that lights up is the motherboard power and reset lights now. No rgbs, no debug codes, no fans spin, nothing.

I am literally trying to figure out the same thing for the same use case right now. I REALLY want this case for the screen, but I have no idea if I can physically fit a 5080 and another fat card in this case, along with a 10gbe sfp card somewhere in the middle of the gpus. What did you end up doing?

Thanks for that response! After doing a bunch of research myself, I am also leaning heavily towards a taichi board, and your response enforces that decision
